I like this one a lot. Definite classic rock feel, with a dash of prog thrown over the top. Great mix as well.

Not sure if I remember this one from before, but it was so very enjoyable either way.    I'm not sure about the waltz reference as opposed to a general 4/4 triplet feel, but really, who cares!   It's completely up to the typically high Bats standards.   Love those lines intertwined with and after "following lights".

Excellent!!! You have done an absoflippinlutely professional job on this one.  I have mentioned this before but I still get a slight XTC vibe from some of your work, including this one.

    Brilliant work!!!

    Listening as I type Rob.

Another great piece of work from you Rob.

One question, about the drums... The kick and snare appear to be a bit more over to the left that "usual." Not the first time I've heard this done, for sure, and it works fine here. So, not a criticism at all, just a question

Don't know why I haven't asked that before because I've got The Time Is Magic and I've listened to this a few times now...

Following Light is another one of your pieces that makes me immediately think of Yes.

    cheers

Fantastic track Rob. Love how you've mixed the acoustics, and the vocals sitting back slightly - perfect classic '70's rock. Nice harmony solo and fills too, like those.

There is one thing i recognized in all the material you posted here over the years that really stands out i.m.o.:
As complex as (most of) your songs are, they never come across "constructed". They always groove, no matter how many changes you build in. Excellent!

hey steve! it's definitely a waltz, standard 3/4 time, but with that 6/8 hat thing going......
i wasn't sure about those 'call and response' parts at first,
    but they grew on me.

Everytime I hear your music I always wonder if this is some classic song from rock's glory days that I somehow missed. To say that this is "market ready" is such an understatement -- but I fear there might not be much (youth) market in today's autotuned world for work of this superb quality.  Your recordings are at the apex of rock oriented material on this forum. Absolutely amazing  !!

    hey allan!
    catchwords:
    autotune
    market ready
    rock oriented

these things are all items i avoid like the plague.

    heheh
hey, if it's rock, it's rock, i don't know if i could right a country tune and orient it towards a certain market (rock),
but actually, i write these things for myself,
and some people actually enjoy them!
so, i feel like i'm ahead of the game.

i'll have my rock-oriented new version of 'tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree' coming out next season,
    it has fuzz,
and a big drum set recorded in stairwell,
    it's already market approved,
and the entire vocal will be pieced together one note at a time,
so we wont have to use the autotunes.

i'm sorry, guys, i went ahead and took it down,
figured a week was long enough....
i don't leave these things up for long,
    usually they just....... languish.
    LOL

i actually re-mixed it, just for fun last night,
i might even re-do the heavy rhythm parts, i think i can greatly tighten them up..
but no, i ain't worried about it being stolen, it's already on a released CD,
    and it's copyrighted!!
    heheh

maybe i'll post the new one...
