Footsteps In The Hall (newer version)
This is a remake of something I did back in 2012 as a co-write with Pat. It was acoustic and you may remember it.... it's still on my SC site somewhere. This is the new version: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12048139 Thanks for listening.

Lovely work, Herb! The sitar fits right in. Its hard to believe that anyone would go way back to 2012 to dig up an old song to rework though. 😄

Yeah.... thanks Shad Scotty & Reece for pointing out the time continuum issue... It was actually written in 2011 recorded then, and I also redid a re-written version in 2012 early in the year which I don't think I posted.... it was a few word changes for my co-writer Pat, on this song. So this is actually version #3 of the song. The song originally was just some acoustic guitar and a synth bass. On my ride up to Virginia a few days ago, I was listening to my MP3 player and the original of this came up in the play list and I decided to rework it with more of a band...and in a lower key than the original. One whole step down. This song was a monthly song contest winner with the Houston Songwriter's Group. (version #2) Come & Go also won the same contest and both of those songs are on the compilation CD of the monthly winners for 2012. It's one of my favorite song writing projects so far. Thanks for listening.

Daryl... thanks for listening. On this song, the mix was kinda fast... I really didn't do much with the piano and B3 except set the level low and let it roll for most of the song.... I did envelope them up in a few places for accents and the B3 climbs into the choruses and especially towards the end. Thanks for noticing that.

Another nice song Herb. Nice sounding recording all round too. I thought the subtle harmony vox worked really well.

Wildman.... thanks.... there are 5 vocal tracks total Main vocal is pitch corrected with melodyne and riding about 3db down. I also have 2 lead vocals recorded individually.... not cloned.... stereo spread at about 75% and about 20db down.... very subtle layering they are all the way through. not pitch corrected. solo the vocal bus and you can hear them... throw them in the mix and they become a subtle thickener..... not very obvious. 2 harmony tracks not pitch corrected, stereo spread is about 50% and down approx 10db. I played around with vocal techniques for some time before "discovering" this technique and really like the result it gives. thanks for listening.

Yeah Frank.... as much as I like to keep up with what's happening..... I have about decided the same thing.... blissfully ignorant sounds enticing.....I have seriously cut down on talk radio and TV news from all sources in the evenings. The only thing I got to see is Duck Dynasty... my wife's favorite show and I am a Walking Dead-head fan... got to see the zombies. Thanks for listening....

Wow, Ilove this. As a person fairly new to this I'm knocked out by the quality. It sounds beautiful to me. Also kind of Gram Parsons meets Willie Nelson. Very impressed.

Your mando sounds good :-) If I hear footsteps in the hall? I'm going for a weapon... Guns don't kill people? "I kill people." I remember, it's touching something in my memory... It reminds me of an artist? It's going to come to me. NOW I KNOW! Hal Ketchum! I loved it. (I'd like to become blissfully ignorant this year? Instead of just ignorant like now.)

I echo Frank... one I retire no more news channels. "Memories are like watercolors left out in the rain, A fading glimpse of scenes from yesterday " Great line Herb. Good tune. I would pick it up about 5 BPM. Nicely done, good lyrics. Daryl

Dodsie: Welcome. It is quite amazing the quality you can get at home these days. I'm glad you listened and liked what you heard. The songs forum is a valuable tool to you. Post your music here and people will help you learn the things you need to get you mixes dialed in. I know this has been a great learning place for me. Robby: the mando... the more I play that thing the more I'm liking it. Thanks. Daryl: That line is my favorite line in this song and probably my all time fav line. It is just so colorful and paints a picture instantly in your mind. Believe it or not, I had to "fight" to keep that line in the song because the meter is s bit off from it's companions in the same verse and different from the second verse.... but it stayed. Somebody emailed me about that line with similar comments... saying it was a great line. I'm glad we kept it. Thanks for noticing that line.

Hey Herb Great job on this piece. Now this IMO is a mix that doesn't sound over crowded with so many different instrument tracks. This really has a classic country vibe but has that modern today sound. Nice mando playing. KUDOS! Kev

EKO: thank you Dan: thank you.. if there is anything you want to know specifically about how I do things... PM me. Kind words sir, and it is an honor to hear someone say that what I do is an inspiration to them. Kev: I actually kept the various instruments low on this.... perhaps that is one factor Thank you for your observations.
