CakeAlexS Preview of upcoming synth here: http://youtu.be/TnYOn1Xy8fs I don't really care for dub that much, I'm more into trance and progressive house but that posts like that are not going to promote civil discourse. It kind of reminds me of the early days of rock n' roll when the old folks bashed it as being noise. 15 years later Deep Purple was recording with the London Philharmonic. The cool thing about music is there are a bazillion different styles and sounds and you can spend your lifetime exploring it. It serves little purpose to bash any genre as noise, it's just going to offend someone. Maybe you should go to a dub show and see what all the fuss is about. Going to see a show with a system designed to reproduce the music correctly will give you a bit different perspective than watching a couple YouTubes on your headphones. Dub is kind of the punk rock of EDM. Any music done well is interesting, it's all art to someone.

Dubstep reminds me of the stuff Stockhausen was doing with analog synths 50 years ago...

I actually think the irony of the video is, that if you took the sounds from the video and slowed them down (or speed them up) as well as messing with their pitch?... You'd probably have some decent dub sounds to make a track with! As the ultimate middle finger to the maker of the video, maybe someone could turn it into a library for Rapture or D-Pro? Giving the video guy full credit for his contributions to the Dub industry of course!!!

new synths are the last thing sonar needs. actual music making functionality for modern production is what sonar really needs. example 1: where the hell is Duplicate? example 2: we need automatic clip fades on slip edit (just made a feedback thread on this) cause having to zoom in and manually doing it every single time is insanely archaic example 3: why isn't groove quantizing integrated in the step sequencer? example 4: why the hell isn't there freely curvable automation lines? example 5: why the hell is there no integrated parallel effects processing? (I'm well aware of the 20 possible workarounds, this is besides the point. same as with duplicate.) example 6: why can we make macro knobs only with effects, not instruments too? example 7: why the hell is there a limitation of 1 output destination for midi tracks? could go on and on.

I don't think the notice that new synths are being developed means that they've put all program functionality development on hold. I'd take a guess that Cake hired people specifically to create these synths? But no doubt the core team would be continuing to work on program improvements/enhancements.

example 1: where the hell is Duplicate?
Here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Duplicate-Ctrl-D-m3099521.aspx waiting for your vote. Duplicate is the kind of thing that no one thinks they need until they use it, then they can't do without it. Back OT I'm interested to see what Cakewalk comes up with, the current collection is a bit long in the tooth, even Z3TA+2. Z3TA made #12 in the MusicRadar list http://www.musicradar.com...the-world-today-262145I would have to agree with MusicRadar on their selections, I've got most of the top 10 and they're the best sounding synths I have. Except for maybe Spire, it hogs way too much CPU for what it does. Sylenth has become my primary. Maybe Cakewalk will shock us all and partner with LennarDigital or reFX. :) Even better if they came up with their own SynthMaster killer.

Is Sylenth still alive? There has been no development at all for two or three years now I think? EDIT: And while I'm a synth guy and like new synths, I don't think anyone has exhausted the soundscaping possibilities of even Pentagon, let alone Z3TA+ 1/2. It's hardly limiting to the work you can do, although new sounds always bring new inspiration.

Yeah, there hasn't been an update in a while but it's still there. Maybe they don't want to mess with a good thing. It's has a limited feature set relative to some of the newer synths, but it still sounds good, I've always thought of it as being friendly sounding. Probably nothing you could quantify.

Surely camels milk would have sand in it? So connecting the pieces, sand is grainy, grainy stuff is granular, therefore it will be a granular synth?!!

And to think I used to make music w/ just two synths - mini-moog and ARP odyssey. What I would like to see is Cakewalk give us more types of synthesis, kinda like what Imagine Line did w/ the max Claster synths, FM, Additive, etc. With Alchemy on the way out (maybe), I'd love to see a granular synth. A real scanning wavetable synth etc. too. A new VA would work too, if they made it thicker sounding than the René synths. Those are good ones, too, but could use new libraries. A little ever-greening would get interest juicing in them. Nothing wrong w/ the synth engines, esp. for cutting sounds. I just always found I needed something like Alchemy or other VAs (even Komplexer, which was a Waldorf kinda synth) for Rapture to cut through. I try to remember Cake is a DAW company, not synth, but they have come up with Rapture & Z3TA, which are real gems. @

This gets my vote. I can't see Cakewalk building a (even less several) new synth from the ground up since they've been more or less out of that business for a while and wouldn't have the necessary team lying around. Most of the existing synths were the labour of a single key figure, so unless he's crept back into the picture...
