Guitars:

PRS SE Torero - the greatest neck to body join, easy access neck I've ever played. I played just about everything in the shop that day and constantly kept coming back to and comparing everything else to this. Bonus was it was one of the cheapest there.

Squier by Fender Contemporary Strat. Bought new in 1985. Lovely guitar - semi retired it now. Mainly studio use only nowadays.

Japanese Fender Strat from 1986 - again bought new. 

Acoustics: An EKO Ranger XII bought new in the early 80s plus a much more recent Nineboys J15CE


Amps:

Marshall JCM600 head through the matching 4 x 10 cab. This is my main live rig and studio amp. Not as heavy as the larger heads and 4 x 12 I've lugged around in the  past which is a major consideration nowadays.

Session Rockette 30 that I bought new in 1985. The same amp type used by Clapton on his August album. Has a real cutting clean sound.

I also have a Laney Linebacker Pro 100 watt head and 4 x 10 which is one of the loudest amps I've ever heard and a small Marshall practise amp MGFX30 or something like that.


Effects. Mainly a BOSS GT-6 for live and studio use but I also have a Yamaha FX900 which gets some use in the studio.

Amp Sims: I have what comes with Sonar but can't recall the last time I used them.

Style: Mainly rock but anything goes.

prs make some really lovely guitars and I'm going to get me one of them before I die :-)

I've been playing for 23 years. Gigging seriously for about 18. Recorded two full length albums in pro studios and a bunch of stuff at home.

Common amps I've played through (but didn't necessarily own): Vintage and re-issue Hiwatts, Marshall JCM 800, 900, 2000, Valvestate and a bunch of customs and anniversary editions, original issue and more modern Peavey 5150's and I had an Express 112 as a kid, Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, Fender Vibra Champ, Twin and various other models, Randall transistor. I've played around briefly with vintage Vox's and Oranges but didn't really like them (I'd probably like them more now that my style is more varied).

Not so common amps (most of which I've owned): Traynor Bass Master's (all tube running through an old Ampeg cab) and various other Traynor gear (including powered mixers in place of a guitar head), Yorkville 200B and 400B (both Bass combos the 400B had a handy EQ section which made it great for guitar), Acoustic 140 transistor bass head, something called a "Rock and Roll" guitar head (it had a lacquered wood case and a wicker grill... lol), a couple of Yamaha's tube and transistor (for practicing) and some other crap I can't remember.

Guitars I've owned or had in my possession for extended periods: 72 Gibson SG Custom (reissue of a 60's model), SAGA II ES-335 clone (wish I could find another one), Washburn N2 (that was a mistake... oof), Hohner Telecaster, Barracuda Flying V, Gibson Les Paul Standard... and that's all I can remember but I've played on tons of other stuff too just not regularly (many strats, BC Riches, Gibsons, Ibanez, Music Man, blah blah blah)

Gear I currently own: Traynor TS 140 loaded with Alnicos (I think), one of the early Line 6 heads (kind of sucks but it's handy for recording... useless live) and little Samick and Roland practice amps (which I haven't touched in years and I think the Roland is actually a keyboard amp). My main guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica 112 (Strat copy) modded with Seymour Duncans in the "Hot Strat" style (the pickup model names are on my old computer). I also have my old Ibanez Roadstar 2 (which I've had since a kid but it needs to be completely rewired) and an Ibanez ART Les Paul copy someone gave me (I don't really like it and it refuses to stay in tune).

Pedals I own or used to own or own but broke: BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone (the one I currently have is a Keeley mod... very nice), BOSS Blues Driver (I miss that pedal), BOSS Overdrive (The yellow one. I think it's broken... I forget), BOSS Chorus pedal (wasn't mine but I used it for years in a specific cover project), MXR Gain pedal (handy boost but not good for much else... I preferred the Blues Driver), Death Metal pedal (I think Digitech made them but I'm not digging it out to check, decent enough distortion but the switches always break and I've destroyed a few of them), Dunlop Cry Baby (sold it years ago). Again I'm sure there are some I'm missing but those were the main units.

Whew... It's like trying to remember old girlfriends, eh? lol

Anyway, no to sims. I really haven't used many as I'm only really getting serious about recording now. I had GR2 on my old system and I HATED it. I think the only thing I ever used it for was to distort some vocals but for guitar it was unusable. When I got Sonar the included GR4 was a million times better but to me it was still rinky dink and the amps included were no where near my style. I upgraded to GR5 and that again was a lot better. I managed to squeeze some usable tones out of it but it was very time consuming and I had to EQ the heck out of the tracks and apply all sorts of other after effects. Even then the results were mediocre and not very realistic. Annoying. However for recording it provides a lot of the tones you hear nowadays but it sure isn't truly emulating the amps it claims it is. Now I'm starting to play around with TH2 Producer (the free version)... now THIS sounds realistic. Took very little time to dial in usable tones and I don't think I'm gonna have to ache over EQs and compressors and whatnot after the fact. It certainly isn't PERFECT but it's the best I've heard so far and I think it's gonna work fine for me. The GUI is stupid though but I think I have it figured out. I still haven't had a chance to check out the Acme Bar Gig stuff yet. As far as Amplitude and other sims... I just don't have the cash to have all that crap installed and it sounds to me like TH2 is probably more what I want anyway.

So there you go. I'm hoping to have my current experiment up soon so you can hear the difference between GR5 and TH2 Producer.

FX : ZenDrive, Xotic AC Boost, Landgraff Dynamic OD, Line 6 M13, a whole bunch of Fuzz pedals Amp Sims : I've been through just about all of the software amp sims and as of today the Scuffham S Gear is hands down my favorite. Line 6 Pod Farm has some good tones, but the S Gear has a presence and detail I don't hear from the competitors. I'll always go for a vintage tube amp as my first choice when recording, but the S Gear does an extraordinary job when needed. 
Style : Blues based Rock & Roll, originals and covers featuring a good bit of open tuning slide guitar. (Somebody once told me I play 'Biker Blues'. I think that might be fairly accurate)

Guitars :  3 Gibson Les Pauls (Custom, Special and a Junior). Ibanez Destroyer, and 2 Gibson SG Standards

Amps: I have a Marshall AVT100 Combo and a JCM3210 head but no cab.

Amp Sim:  I use an original VOX Tonelab.  Have a Tonelab EX but hven't really had a chance to put it through its paces.

Gear: '71 Traynor 40w YBA1 head into a homemade 1x12 cab with an Eminence speaker. A small, 60's 1x8, 5w, Valco-built National combo. I don't use many pedals - occasionally turn on a Phase 90, Boss digital delay 6, Joe Meek compressor, or Dunlop wah. I have an Eventide PitchFactor for studio use. 
 
Guitars (always changing): Gibson CS SG, Fender AVRI Strat, Gibson USA Firebird, Epiphone Casino.

Amp sim of choice: none. Amps sims suck (but maybe in 5-10 years they will be good?). Sometimes, for late night recording, I use my Rockcrusher attenuator to cut all volume to the speaker and run a direct line from it into my preamp/DAW. I then apply an Ownhammer cab/speaker sim using Nebula. Sounds OK for demos, but nothing that I would want to release to the public.



Style: all types of Rock, blues, old R&B, folk, fake/slacker jazz.
