For my fellow BFD users out there - what are your favorite kits?

I can't seem to help myself from getting more kits when they go on sale, and I've got a song I need to find just the right kit for.

so, got any favorites?

Thanks for the link Dan!

I'm going back and forth with fxPansion tech support at the moment - seems the kits I have aren't properly isntalled. Ug. I want to make music today, not do tech support.

I think we need to hire our own techs to maintain our machines and keep all software up to date. Then we can just make music, lol...

Yeah, I told the fxpansion guy that I want to spend my free time today making music, not being a tech. BFD Heavy is missing a number of kit pieces and he said to go and find the pieces from BFD 2 "or any other library" and replace them and save.

I'm not rebuilding presets for a junk install. :( Very disappointed in the tech support on this one.

Sounds like when I go to the market and ask the guy where the BECAN is; he tells me to go to pig farm and buy a pig and take it to my local butcher.

I have the Nick Mason kit for BFD and it's pretty nice if you want a lot of toms to play with.

I'm trying to decide between Heavy and Sphere for mainly rock recording...anyone have a preference between the two?

check out the 'black album drums', don't be fooled by the metallica/metal inference, they can do a lot off different styles. i own all the bfd xpansions that i know off and if i had to pick just 1 to keep it would be them.

heavy and sphere are quite good, you really can't go wrong either way

[edit] put the link up for black album drums, but as ussual the forum ate the post, why it hates fxpansion links is beyond me, but . . .

I just purchased Heavy and Sphere and like them both, but for what I'm working on I'm enjoying Oblivion just a bit more...

I believe both of those have demo kits available, so you might want to give them a try.

I tend to write jazz oriented stuff when I think of acoustic drums, so I use Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute (it came out before Jazz Maple) and Virtually Erskine a ton. I also love both of the Zildjian Digital Vaults and Signature Snares 1. The Roy Haynes snare kills.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Yea, I'm kicking myself for not picking up Oblivion last month when it was on sale.  I'm fairly new to BFD3 but have realized in this short time how it stands out amongst the other drum VSTs I have laying around now.  I'm going to hold out for Oblivion and save my pennies for the Black Album Drums.  Grim, wish I'd given the demo tracks a listen...I can totally see now that it's much more than just the Metallica sound.  No GAS this time around...I'll wait for the expansions I want vs. the ones that are on sale.

OK I've finally got a kit that I'm totally digging!

1. Start with the Oblivion kit
2. Change kick to DW Kick (Processed) from BFD Sphere
3. Link a second kick as SDB Kick from Sonic Realities Epic Drums 60s downbeat
4. Change the snare to EJB Kit 6 Snare from Platinum Samples Joe Barresi Evil Drums
5. Have friend actually mix the damn thing. Includes parallel bus with UAD Fatso and run through UAD Pultec, UAD Ampax, and UAD Ocean Way

Man BFD is DEEP.

I've saved this as a preset so I can recall at will.

So cool to have a kit that sounds so good... :)
