For what it's worth..

someone that posted in the "favorite album art" thread is infected.
I'm on the PC at work and it just blocked it and flashed info..that I didn't
get and not going back to try and get it.

Could be nothing for all I know about that stuff.

Jpeg photo files can be used to open systems. It's sort of impossible to predict who is going to stuff jpegs with nastiness... but it seems like any site that gets a lot of broad based popular traffic is a candidate.

I like grabbing lyrics from lyrics sites... it seems benign... but those sites are full of trashy stuff that trips out my protection apps.

I imagine album covers and pictures of celebrities are also popular for this sort of stuff.

It's one reason none of my important computers get any where near the internet.

    Thanks for the heads up.

    best regards,
    mike

Those lyrics sites are notorious for infecting a system. So are free screensaver, wallpaper, midi, and ascii art sites.

I never knew a .JPG could cause harm on your system? I know .GIF and .PNG files can, but never knew that about .JPG's.

I just scanned all the links in the album thread and I got no hits of any virus's, spyware, or anything malicious ... it was probably a firewall tripping a false flag.

I think most every antivirus system is hip to the jpeg issue.

So hopefully the only thing that you'll notice is the warning flashing.

That just means that the website hosting the .jpg has been found to have a virus on it somewhere, not the .jpg itself.

[EDIT: You took the "www" off the label for the link, not the link itself.]

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
