Ford dumping cd players in vehicles

Just heard on the TV news here in the US that Ford Automotive is talking about eliminating the cd players in their cars and going digital (MP3). Didn't catch the date of this happening. That would suck, to put it mildly.

Apparently, the money saved from this venture will be used to research for a reliable engine that would outlast the standard Ford warranty that comes with the new models.

Wonder how they propose the loading of the MP3s?

    Broken pencils are pointless.

"This model has a whopping 8 MEGABYTES of storage capacity for your music!  Not only that, but we've taken the liberty of pre-loading it with the Best of Barney!!!  That's right!  Barney!  After a day of commuting with this in your ears, you probably won't be able to get that adorable dinosaur's songs out of your head!  Ever...

346 people died in head on collisions last year in Ford cars while changing CD's. I hope the new head unit responds to voice commands.

I see where its been headed for awhile now. Can't say I blame Ford at all. In another 10 years the 8th graders will be asking. What was a hard copy? I almost without exception plug in my iphone to listen to music. Add XM and jump drive readers( I had one in my last car stereo) and who needs CDs anymore?

The cloud isn't really new but is catching on...maybe thats where all of our tunes will eventually reside.

    I miss my cassette player.

My old work truck had a kicking factory system with multiple speakers and the bass response was awesome.... plus it had AM/FM with CD and cassette.  It was a Dodge work van.

My new Ford, has AM/FM and that is it. Heck it doesn't even have an input for aux sources.  I have considered aftermarket players but for now, I use my MP3 player with buds. Or my Droid on Pandora or iheart radio.
