Forum history

Was going through some old stuff around here, cleaning up and so on, when I ran into some old printouts of threads from before this forum (not just the CH but the whole Cakewalk forum) existed when it was just a Usenet Newsgroup. This was sometimes back in 2003. I see by some of the join dates we have members from back then, and also there's some names recognized from the old newsgroup. John (from upstairs) & Glennbo are just a couple.

So I got to wondering - how many are there of us here that were part of the old newsgroup back in the day?

Back in my day we had to trudge 3 miles uphill in the snow to join a newsgroup.

I started before squirrels were invented...

(Actually, I talked with Greg Hendershott on a phone back in the late 80's while working out bugs in Cakewalk v1.0 - don't remember joining any groups then 'cause most of the people in those groups were WEIRD!!! )

Indeed. :) Wonder where he went after Apple bought Logic...

EDIT - Just looked up and found his web site - which hasn't been updated in a coupe of years. Seems he went with Steinberg. Which explains the 2 years w/ no update -  he's probably been busy trying to get a replacement for his dongle and his software re-authorized on his machine for the last 2 years... ;)

In 2003 I was working 80-90 hours a week, starting up a new business while working a full-time day job. Flipping bits, dreaming entity-relationship diagrams, living on coffee and gas-station hot dogs. No vacations, weekends or holidays.

In 2003 I was feverishly pursuing some kind of sick dream. And pretty sure I would never make music again - no time for such frivolous pursuits and anyway there was no real money in it. I had drive and I was proud of it.

That was two years before my first heart attack.

I am healthier, stronger and happier now than I was in 2003. Only my bank account has declined. Of what use is money if you don't have music in your life?
