Forum "Super band."

My super forum band would have Danny D playing lead, and mixing along with James Y, and Timaaaay.

It would have James Y doing the drums.

Frank Tanton would be playing the bass.

Tim Wilkenson would be singing lead, and maybe Jimmyman (RIP) I always liked his vocal stylings.

Not sure who I would have on keys.

I would also have Miss Dena (Venus) singing.

I think Larry from SMB would be doing percussion.

And finally maybe Geere (Gary) playing acoustic/rhythm.

Oh and Scotty playing the fiddle :-) (and sawin it hot...)

Of course this would not occur naturally (in nature) but it would be interesting if it did.

**Note, there are many other combinations one could consider. This is only one of many.

And many opposite combinations as well? i.e., "me mixing" would be less than desirable...

All you need is love, just ask the Beatles?

Bapu is a great bass player, as I said? Others are great too? And he plays an Alembic "high end dream bass..." And it sounds excellent! I have opinions, they are not intended to offend. Strummer does the metal covers better than anyone?  Any offense is taken on the part of the reader ;-) I just particularly enjoy the way frank plays the bass, that takes nothing away from a Maestro like Mr. Bapu. Or others who are Maestro's in their own right. Is it possible some people could be over-reacting? No!? That would never happen here?

Some people seem to look for reasons to be offended, but in the Coffeehouse? Really? Wow. And with nothing offensive offered? Some people may be looking just a bit too hard ;-)

Recognizing greatness should not cause friction? Think about it...

Case in point? Bub did something really cool with a delay effect on a song recently? I had never heard it before. I complimented him and asked about how it was achieved? That should not offend others who's delay prowess I did not recognize? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there is a lot of beauty here to behold. You've got to know when to behold um? Know when to fold um...

Again, my comments were intended to recognize and appreciate greatness, not to diminish any ones talents. If anyone has taken offense? That was not my intent.

Excellence is to be pursued, and appreciated. We should all strive to attain it.

It's OK to recognize excellence, we do it "worldwide" every 4 years ;-) People don't talk about how pretty the sprinter was? Or how the bronze medalist high jumper had really good form? We celebrate “excellence.” I celebrate excellence. If you’re not excellent? That’s not a dig at you or anyone else. It is a celebration of our artform and should be accepted as such.

Yeah, heheheh I figured you were Bapu, and you know I respect your mad skills on that "vintage" bass... Some folks really do seem to get latherd though when you say someone else is good? I don't get it, maybe I'm just misreading them and they too are adding levity? We all know there are some "huge" talents here to which we look up? And aspire toward... I have many, only named a few, YOU are actually in the rotation :-D

My list is a good one, not the best? But for me? These are my pics... I'm working with James Y right now on a munged up mix I tried to do "5 times..." over the course of a week? Hours a day.. But he can take it, and "like that" it sounds better than my best try? The man has a gift... I don't But we can and should look up to those who are exceptional at the various diciplines involved in this, and we know there are many diciplins. Some are just unquestionably the Jackie Robinson of what it is they're good at. And it makes me smille to see someone do what I try to do, but like 100 times better? I don't feel bad about it, I stand in awe of it.

I don' wanna even be in your dumb ol' band anyhow. So there.

OK, what if I had a P.A., a van and a handtruck, though? And my cousin can get us matching shirts.  But that's only if I wanted to be in your dumb band.

And I call dibs on Julibee for my supergroup.

If that is true and you believe it to be true then you do it intentionally to get to them. That is probably
why you are met with confrontations and seem to be missing this point.
Don't misunderstand me though...I don't care what you do or with whom you do it with...it's your rights. Just something

Julie is a great singer, I like her more classical works? But different people like different things.

Which is what I was intending to stimulate. By no means a war of any kind, or a disagreement? More quarum where maybe some likeminded could agree and make their preferences known and agreed to, and other’s may/WOULD feel differently? Because we all like different music and we all have differing standards for what we consider good, normal, bad, or excellent?

And ideally, someone would be able to observe this “over time” so as to make a well informed decision based on their filter/prism, and  the body of work or talent under review.

Again, no reader should assume that this is anything derogatory toward anyone else. On the contrary, it is intended to stimulate commentary on consensus masters. (they’re here) Then there’s most of the rest of us who are OK, and can look up to the gurus and strive to reach their level. In some cases, we will? In the majority? Probably not.  But that’s not necessarily a bad thing? Nothing wrong with being OK, or pretty good? Not many can stand as an example ;-) And then again, opinions on that example will vary from person to person.  It’s an exercise in social dynamics?  And an interesting one IMO.

Actually I think this thread is fair enough.  The other one wasn't.

Just to state who you'd want in your virtual band is pretty cool I think and I like most of Robby's choices here.  I think for me it would depend on the project.

I haven't checked lately but if I was a cynical guy I'd venture that Robby has a new project up and is fishing for comments...

I'm not a cynical guy though and of course I'm wrong about that.

But (like Reece I assume) I was serious when I mentioned that there was trouble doing this before.

    For me mox-nix.

    yes.  agreed with this.

Robby - there is nothing wrong with admiring others for their talent.  it's your presentation that is "offensive" to people.  as I said, you did this before and it caused great problems.  why would you do it again?  did you not learn from that experience that you are offending people when you do it?  or did you learn and you just don't care?  lists like this only cause problems - regardless of whether you think it should cause a problem or not - it DOES.  you have data which has told you that if you choose to remember.

personally I'm not offended.  I don't care who you admire.  I admire the people in your list as well and many more.  but there's the thing.  I would never make a list like this to exclude anyone's feelings.  if I admire someone's talent I'll tell them directly, not publicly make a list which screams "elitism"  and "exclusion."
