Free Anti-virus software

it seems that antivirus is always a hot topic to computer users. it is indeed the moment to secure our computers but to pay or to download for free, we all have our own ideas, now i would like to share with you free antivirus software. here's what i collected. anyone who know of any other good freeware? speak out
1. Get the fee avg 8.0

http://www.topsofts.com/product/71782/AVG_Anti-Virus_Free_Edition.html

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/desktop_software/desktop_security/avg_free_edition.cfm

you may have better place, if so what about telling me

2.make sure you have a basic in/out firewall
3.get the free returnil (and use that when you are on the internet.)

avg antivirus is small and does a good job, anything that might slip through avg will be stopped by "returnil" no virus/spyware/ malware/trojan/rootkit has been known to defeat returnil. returnil runs in memory and speeds up your computer instead of slowing it down.

as long as you have returnil , you dont have need any bloated antispyware software.

i checked my posts i was a little shocked. you are right , almost all of my posts have been just inviting people to download software. and i thought over the reason seriously. maybe the following is the reason:
my posts came after i logged in other software forum, when i found them similar to my cases and i posted the problems here. but i didnt notice they are almost the same styles.
i just want to say sorry for my boring posting style,

you must be joking, it seems i am working for some websites,?iam really happy about your review, that means i am capable enough of doing work of this kind, i may think of working for some website if they hire me. but it is impossible. if that comes ture i guess i can hardly earn a living. there are sharp-sighted people everywhere

Beagle there is only 1 site I check regularly and it has it's own update checker... and hosts a serious amount of decent freeware

    http://www.filehippo.com/

(I don't work for them either)

other than that, I like this also

those are pretty cool sites, Paul! some of those downloads are really good looking tools!

but the only reason i replied asking the OP about his affiliation with those companies is because he has had nothing else to contribute to the sonar community except download sites. no sonar questions or anything. so I just thought he was probably spamming.

gonzo - that's what I use as well. I did use AVG Free until they updated to version 8 and version 8 started taking control of my machine. dirtying my dishes, putting dog poo on the floor, making ring around the bathtubs, you know. so I started using avast and I haven't had any problems with it. AND my bathtub rings are gone!

Reece , I got to know of the site because of piriform the people who make ccleaner , probably how a lot knows of filehippo..

I use all their products as well.. except like many things always take time installing or you get an option for some unwanted toolbar or security scan, from major companies..

anyway piriform are London based developers, so if it goes wrong I'll pay em a visit.hehe.. not that it would I've been using ccleaner for a few years and it never messes up, unlike a few pay-for optimizers that like to delete hidden protection files. It did that for my dragon naturally speaking..

they do a defrag program and also a thing called recuva for file recovery.

years ago I used to use a website called softseek , but then c-net (download.com) bought them out and it got not so good.

majorgeeks is a nice site , but the amount of content is overwhelming.

If I fix a pc for someone and they are too lazy to do updates, well the update checker on filehippo gives them a hint

yeah, I've been on majorgeeks before, but you're right it's kind of overwhelming. thanks for the tips!

Reece, well they are based around the corner from Denmark street, which is famous music street in the centre of London.. basically all guitar etc. shops.. although one of the companies , maybe the biggest on it when in to administration last year. The pistols also used to record in a studio on that small street .

I haven't been to the centre of London (the west end) for a long time as it's full of tourists and I can just get all my music equipment from Digital Village, Acton just down the road (quite near to the edirol HQ as well..haha) . I mean I couldn't take the mackie 824's on the bus, that would have been madness. At least I can park in Acton.. now to drive into that part of the westend, for a day your looking at $16 BEFORE any parking fee's

cool! I'm not a huge pistols fan myself, but I can always appreciate talent anywhere, that would be cool to have them recording nearby!

there's not a big music scene in my area really. and almost all of the local music shops are gone. Guitar Center rules the whole area, really. there are a few mom and pop stores scattered here and there, but they just dont have any selection. But I also don't have such a huge metro area like you're describing, either, I don't have to deal with those kind of driving costs or mass transportation/shopping issues.

Now Austin, which is about 3 1/2 hours drive, they have a pretty big music industry downtown. I've been there a few times. they have one whole section of downtown which is lined with different types of bars and they all have live music! pretty cool.
