Free Edit Tool

I won't know if this is a Sonar or V-Studio question until I know the answer, so my apologies if this is on the wrong forum.
 
In the section about using the V-Studio console for editing, the VS-700 manual refers several times to using the "Free Edit Tool." 
 
What is this, and is this a Sonar tool or a V-Studio thing?  It is not in the V-Studio index and I can't find it in the text anywhere.  Thanks.

    Although its listed in the index of the X1 manual as being on page 327, its not mentioned on that page or nearby. 

    I broke out my old Sonar 8 manual and there is a description of it on page 1043 and it says it was new in that version. I believe it was replaced in X1 perhaps by the Smart Tool and they forgot to mention it in the X1 manual.

    Sonar's videos, manuals and help files are in need of being updated. They regularly refer to things that have been changed, moved or that no longer exist which only serves to confuse us.
     
    When Home Studio 7 came out it was a completely different program than Sonar 7 and 8 but the Help file still refered to old ways in many cases. It was basically useless. When I asked Cakewalk about it they said the Help file was a one-size-fits-all situation. This makes no sense. By the time I figured most of it out they discontinued the program.

    Thanks very much.  I have been using the V-Studio for about a year and really like it, but mainly use it as a traditional mixing desk and transport along with a few customized buttons.  I thought I would start to look into how to use it for zooming, editing, etc. and see if that is productive.

    Not related to this question, but one thing I miss is markers on the console.  I use them in Sonar, and I have a Next Marker button set up on the console, but I sort of miss the old 1-10 type locations that were on traditional multi-track transports.  Clicking around in X1 takes so long that I usually just use the console scroll wheel during sessions instead of markers.  What I mean is that I can spin the wheel back to the start of a chorus or up to the next verse faster than I can drop-down a marker list and click.  And if your hands are on the console and transport, you don't want to have to transition to the mouse.
