I was about to take you up on what appears to be a fine offer when I saw this: "UltraChannel does not require you to own or use an iLok dongle, but the iLok License Manager and an ilok.com account are required to use the plugin. An ilok.com account can be created either at ilok.com or within the iLok License Manager application. Please download and install this software if it is not already installed on your computer. This application allows users to authorize up to two computers or an iLok dongle to use UltraChannel." That scares me away. But should it? I have gotten gun shy over the years about iLok I tried it but it caused so many problems for me I gave it and the application that required it up.

Dear Mr. Eventide: If you remove the iLok requirement to run your products I would be willing to pay you for your product. As is, I'm sorry but we remain at philosophical loggerheads. Regards,

I've been using iLok for some time now for EWQL and Synthogy products, so it's just one more license for me. But I understand your concern. I too have decided not to install freebies like this in the past. One thing that I find useful is to toggle off all the services/drivers that I don't need using a program like autoruns. This way the additional functionality is only a single mouse-click away when I need it, but not running when I don't need it. I also use a USB port with individual switches, one of which contains my iLok. That too only gets switched on when necessary.

Rodan, The Ilok license manager is ok. It's virtually identical to the scheme IK uses. The licenses are stored in a specified folder on your computer, ready for immediate access. I've never owned a physical Ilok, but the manager is pretty transparent. Be sure to watch the videos for the coupon code. This is the "Access Code" for the download.

I think we define "transparent" differently. i dare you to try and uninstall the ilok software cleanly. Took me months to get rid of it. Even whe nyou think it's gone, it hides and re-installs itself

Those of us who use Sonar won't be getting the most out of Eventide's UltraChannel. According to the manual, side chain operation works with only AAX and AudioUnits plug-ins, not VST.

Haven't tried this but looking at the image, it doesn't appear to offer features that aren't already included in the prochannel modules. I'm going to pass. I don't need another freebie VST that I'll try once and have it sit in my VST folder unused.

Eventide is most reputable. It does support VST. I don't really need it with ProCh though it looks good. After the 8th it is 249$

I tried it out last night, it's pretty nice. It's got a ton of presets, nicely arranged, to use as a starting point. The micro pitch shift and delay effects are pretty nice, I put it on an EP track that was pretty bare bones and it woke the track up nicely. Nice addition to the toolbox.

Yup, I had the same experience using it on my strat. It's very intuitive and the effects are very musical. A nice addition to the arsenal.

I'll never understand why people "won't use and iLok" or " I won't connect my computer to the internet". I guess it's the state of things where people think they are more than they are. Just so you know, they, the establishment or "the man", already know all they need to know about you. It is very difficult to live completely "off the grid". I never understand why people prefer strawman arguments to the actual reasons people give. Using the image of people who don't use iLok or connect music computers to internet as paranoid dleusional types is dismissive and insulting. I don't use iLok for a few reasons but the primary one is that installing it caused me issues and it was a royal pain to get rid of. As bitflipper has pointed out, they don't include a legit uninstaller . Completely uninstalling pace software is harder to remove than most viruses. I'm not afraid some evil entity is hacking my computer but I do resent not being able to cleanly uninstall a program if it gives me issues. Although I don't have an issue with connecting my media production computers to the internet, many do for reasons that extend past your implication they are being paranoid. In a professional environment, time is money and some programs are sensitive to small changes. My former job had a 10k Avid workstation maden useless for a week because an autoupdate of quicktime was not compatible. You would think a simple rollback would have done the trick but like iLok, QT occasioanally does not want to leave quietly and the workstation had to be wiped and everything reinstalled. I know that is extreme case but for some companies thay scenario is not worth risk.

Thanks but not for me. I can't stand i-Lok or anything even remotely connected to it. Plus I don't want to install their software onto my computer. Registering an account? Okay. Fair enough but having to install software??? No way... Besides this plug-in doesn't offer anything that I don't already have in Sonar.

I had extremely negative experiences with iLok 1, including a trashing of my C: drive because I didn't have the latest drivers and having a Digidesign support person walk me through fixing an iLok issue and at one point saying "NO!! Don't do what it tells you to do on the screen!" just before a fateful mouse click. But I have to run some iLok-protected software. Fortunately iLok 2 is way better. No catastrophic problems, and it's a better system with better plug-in management. Still, I think those who characterize iLok as "a virus you install yourself" are pretty much telling it like it is, especially in light of Bitflipper's comments concerning the lack of a legit uninstaller.

Ignoring the philosophical and/or tech debate regarding iLok... I do not own an iLok (can't and do not want to spend money on a device that merely allows me to spend money on things I can't afford anyway). So I can still use this despite this limitation? I ask because although I would not install something like this on my main DAW (I doubt I need it on that system) I would have no problem doing so on a secondary computer like my laptop which could not handle X3 but could handle something like Reaper which could probably be greatly enhanced by such a thingie mabob. I really do not care about things I don't like being stubborn on secondary systems because if they tick me off enough I'll just wipe the drive (which I do from time to time anyway). Soooo.... if it doesn't need the dongle what's the catch? Do they just want an email and some unverifiable registration info (I'm Aloysius Von Pooptard III at 8008 Sargrate Ln.)?
Can I download it before the deadline then register it whenever I want or do I need to register before the 8th? Because really if I don't need an iDinki or give a CC# I don't see a downside. I like checking out different things and I'd really like to see what I can make my lappy do. Cheers.

Beep, You could download it, create an iLok account and have the license deposited into that account and you should be covered should you decide you want it. I'm not sure if an iLok is required to run UltraChannel but the license shows up on my iLok. I found this: Eventide has announced that their new UltraChannel channel strip effect in VST/AU plugin formats for Windows and Mac is available for free download until July 8th. On the negative side, an iLok user account is required in order to activate the plugin. On the positive side, the iLok dongle is not a requirement. This is a fantastic plug and no brainer at the current price. Rocky

No catch. You just have to install the ilok software and create an account. Honestly I don't think this gives people with x3 producer any added functionality (particularly since side chaining does not work ). The main downside for me may be a non-factor for you and that is the fact that removing the software is a challenge.

Thanks, guys. Yup, no problem for me because I wouldn't be putting it on my main DAW nor would I use it with Sonar. Like I said I might use something like Reaper or a budget/free version of other software on my laptop and obviously the plugin options will not be as robust as my Producer install so this would basically be my "Prochannel" for those purposes. If it ticks me off then I make the hardrive go kaboom and start from scratch. ;-)
