Free Kontakt Library

A nice-sounding, usable freebie from Swedish epic trailer-composer and sound designer Erik Ekholm. Cinematic Sounds for NI Kontakt. Six libraries, 120+ patches, mostly big cinematic pads and special effects.

Full Kontakt is required, but as I am still downloading I do not know yet if K5 is required or if it's K4-compatible. Most of the sounds were recorded before K5's release, but he could have built the nki's recently. I'll let you know when I find out in 53 minutes. 
 
All you have to do to get it is tweet your friends. I, however, do not tweet. Nor anything else remotely e-social except participating in a few online forums. But I merely had to PM Erik from my kvr account and he sent me a direct link, with the request that I tell my friends. So here ya go, friends.

I don't tweeter so it looks like The Bapu loses out on this one.

Well I've got it downloaded and installed and am walking through the patches - yes, it's compatible with Kontakt 4.2.

I've gotten some very cool freebies before, but none as deep as this one. There are a boatload of patches, and so far every one has been of quality on par with expensive commercial libraries. They're mostly multi-layered nkm's with lots of movement.

It's heavy on the weird and spooky (e.g. "Ghastly Resonance", "Lo-Fi Ghouls", "Dark Noise") which I have little need for. But if I ever get to do a horror movie soundtrack, I'm covered. 

But it's not all creepy sounds. There is some useful percussion of the cinematic variety, which I do like to use, and not just in "movie music". A big deep or metallic hit can provide unexpected interest in any song, even a ballad. Also some complex lead and bass voices (bapu, be sure to try out "Bapp-bapp Bass").

Although the (482MB) download completed and unzipped OK, at least one instrument complained about missing samples. The samples are present, but as ncw files (possibly K5?) and the instrument is looking for wav files. I'll ask about those...

I figured out how to avoid the missing-samples issue: in the Find Missing Samples dialog, check the "allow alternate file types" option. That'll allow Kontakt to substitute the ncw equivalent for the missing wave files.

Yup. Some of them have been previously released and I already had them.

edit- yes, these are the same libs that were available directly from his website a few weeks ago.

Anything that requires facebook, twitter,etc., I pass without exception. I refuse to jump through social networking hoops like some trained chimp.

My wife's the one with a Facebook account, so I'm pretty sure whe wouldn't mind jumping a bit for me.

Thanks for posting this.  The libraries look nice.  Unfortunately I too do not tweet nor do I "like" with Facebook.  I did send the link to a friend of mine who does tweet and like.
