Can't go wrong with a kit that includes a cymbal called the "Crash of Doom". I went for the All Samples pack, since I'll have to make my own mappings for Kontakt 4 (the supplied Kontakt instruments are K5 only). [...later...] Well, it only took 8 hours to download on my snappy DSL connection. Holy crap, there are 121 samples just for the EDGE of the Crash of Doom cymbal! 3 round-robins for each of 40 (!) velocity layers. Altogether 242 samples and that's just a crash cymbal. For the snare, seven articulations and almost 2,000 samples. Oh my, this is gonna take awhile.

I went for the simpler multivelocity one since I am too lazy to map 2000 samples.

I should have gone for the 3-layer version, but I couldn't determine from the description whether they came as wave files or NCW compressed, which would have made them incompatible with Kontakt 4.
I think I'll create each drum/cymbal as a separate instrument and load them as a multi if I want to use the entire kit. More likely, I'll use just the kick or snare in conjunction with another drum library. I've got a few kick-only and snare-only Kontakt libraries that I like to substitute for Superior Drummer's instruments for variety.
Then again, I haven't had time to actually listen to these samples yet, so I don't even know if they're any good. If they suck it would save me a whole lot of work! Unfortunately, I have a feeling they'll be pretty good.

So, the Kontakt version is "Coming Soon".
I see other packs, like the Multi-velocity pack contain software "templates", including Kontakt 5. Is this "template" an NKI file with everything mapped?
It looks like the Kontakt version will have a mixer and menus to change articulations when it eventually arrives.

Actually, all the kits are Kontakt-compatible and come with nki's. For K5, though, which is why I elected to get the raw samples and roll my own K4-compatible version.

The Multi-Velocity Pack contains up to 16 velocities of each articulation recorded. These come as WAVs however this pack also comes with presets for Kontakt 5, Battery, Studio one Soundsets, Ableton Drum Racks, Reason Refills, Geist, Maschine, EXS24 and iDrum. So this pack will load straight up in any of those samplers. The contact preset comes as an NKI.
The Single Hits pack is the same thing but with only 3 velocities of each articulation for those who want to keep things simple.
The Kontakt pack which is just running through beta testing will only support the latest version of Kontakt and this uses different samples from the Multi-Velocity pack. (The Kontakt pack utilises separate close mic, room mic and overhead mics while the multi-velocity pack contains WAVs which are a mix of those three mics). The Kontakt pack will also include the Drumdrops Kontakt interface which has a mixer, midi grooves, step sequencer, convolution reverbs and loads more features... If you are a Kontakt 5 user this is the pack for you...(You can buy some of Drumdrops other Kontakt kits now but you may want to wait for this to check them out).
All samples Pack - is just WAVs.. But two sets of samples (the separate close mic, room mic and overheads as well as the mixed versions of these)...
If anyone buys the wrong pack by mistake the other Yamaha packs are only £ 1.50 so they won't bankrupt you...
