Free for Kontakt - An Orchestra Strings - VSCO2

Here is the release version of An Orchestra Strings using the VSCO2 Community samples. It has a complete String Section, Solo Violin, Violin Section, Viola Section, Cello Section, Solo Contrabass and Harp. In various nkis it can do legato, modwheel xfades, fake ensembles and fake round robins. It generally has 2 velocity layers, the shorts tend to have 2 round robins and there are samples about every three notes. Articulations include Arco Vibrato, Tremolo, Spiccato and Pizzicato.
The most unique thing are the three An Orchestra nkis using the string section for arps and chords.

Note this requires Kontakt 5.6.8 (What can I say OT made me do it as I had to have Inspire!)

Hopefully I can blow your minds in a few weeks with the Brass if I get on the horn.

Sadly no. To license Kontakt Player is a good chunk of cash per download.

Well, I'm going to explore how to add at least Kontakt 5, if not Komplete 11, this summer. I can easily appreciate the value of it. There are so many things I could access once I've got it.

It definitely opens up a lot of areas. They seem to have sales on it from time to time depending on how big a hurry you are in to get it. If you do get it, take a look at Alpine Instruments as he has some lovely little orchestral freebies for Kontakt that cover about the whole orchestra. Also Piano in 162 is great.

On the other hand if you want to take a look at VSCO2 Community, it is available in other formats.

Thank you! I had no idea and didn't go past the "requires Kontakt" line.... I will now!
Retired budget requires that I wait for the sales.... LOL

And another experiment from the mad scientist with a pre-schooler's knowledge of Kontakt programming and access to the scripts that ship with kontakt and the NI forum master Evil Dragon...

I call it the Happy Piano Chord and Arp Machine, HaPCAM for short. The progression of the major chords in chords or arps. After you change from I to V or whatever you need to press the base chord root note to switch the arp if you are using arp hold mode.

With some experimentation you might be able to use it on other Kontakt pianos? It doesn't like round robins for some reason though.

I followed this link to another link and found a nice little free upright piano called VSCO2 Keys/Harp. Probably not the best quality as they stretch samples over several keys but they're the most realistic sounding samples for the price. Thanks!

@ bigcatt    Are all of those instruments "workable" with the Kontakt Player, then? I am going to have to become "conversant" in Kontakt!

I haven't thought of this thread in a while.

Thanks for giving them a try, Nino.

Glad you liked the Piano, Soens. It was done by the same guy that did Piano in 162.

Hey Pentimentsound. Sadly Kontakt Player libraries require a licensing fee from Native Instruments. Based on download numbers and what I understand are basic fees, it would have cost between 20 and 50 million dollars to make everything Kontakt Player. That is a few pennies over budget. ;)

You can in theory play them in 'demo' mode for 15 minutes, but this gets annoying really fast. I've done VSCO2, Sonatina and other things as standalone VSTs, but they aren't nearly as nice as the Kontakt versions. There are also many nice SFZ versions and variations of VSCO2.

The piano gives interesting results when layered with other pianos.

As for Kontakt, I had the player but wound up buying a $50 vsti that required the full version. I suffered with "demo mode" while waiting for Kontakt to go on sale. Then they offered me a $125 "crossgrade" for owning the vsti. I was never gonna shell out $400 but this was doable so I went for it. Now I'm learning how to create instruments and tweak some I already have.

Thanks bigcatt, that makes completes sense to me!
I went back and read through the site. I saw sfz format thing and will explore that.

I think you will enjoy Kontakt, Soens. If you want to roll your own instruments you might check out Freesound.org. Quite a number of instruments have been multi-sampled and are quite fun to use in Kontakt. There are also lots of great sound effects that work well as Kontakt instruments since Kontakt can stretch samples pretty well.
