FreeFileSync
This is from a thread on the Computers forum but I thought it would be good to post here to see if anyone can reassure me or to warn others if there is a problem http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3429076 I am sure Elffin is finding the program useful and not see these alarms or he would not have made the recommendation. Maybe the site has become infected recently or maybe its a false positive.
Elffin For kontakt libraries, play libraries and vsl libraries I use this tool https://sourceforge.net/projects/freefilesync/
While this seems to be exactly what I need the AV on my Internet Computer (Bullguard) does not like it at all. It stopped the install some way saying it had blocked an infected file uninstaller.exe. The download button on the link above just downloads a text file, so I went to the website link halfway down the page. http://www.freefilesync.org/download.php - First issue was a bunch of pop-up ads for a program called "GoodFileSync" with down load buttons, when I downloaded what appears to be the correct file <FreeFileSync_8.2_Windows_Setup.exe> I get the messages from Bullguard. Any ideas, confirmed false positive, hijacked link? Anyway its going no where near my DAW for the moment.

I've been using FreeFileSync for a couple of years now, first on Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10, both 64 bit. I've used a custom install to eliminate some of the bloat, and so far (knock on wood!!) I've never had any issues. The program works great!! I've been using v7.4 since it came out; no plans to change to a newer version anytime soon. I also use MS SyncToy, which seems to run fine on my (now) Windows 10 laptop, also 64 bit. Randy

Thanks, I have just, since my last post, used SyncToy to sync my MP3 music folder to the one on my NAS backup drive. It seemed to work fine. For the time being I will proceed with Arconis file backups to my USB backup drives and use SyncToy to sync mirriored folders on the NAS drive. Plus Acronis C: drive images on both the NAS and USB drives.

Thanks, your link was Sourceforge which I consider to be a ligit site, but the download link there was just a text file. The site I used is linked from the sourceforge page. From research I suspect we are talking about low level malware or adware that can be avoided with caution. However unless SyncToy fails to do what I want I am staying with that for the time being.

Hi... Had a look at this and noticed that the site had banner ads which reminded me of the awful way of being confused in regards what download link to click. I have been using 8.1 but there is an update 8.2 ... which I have downloaded but will pass through various antivirus tomorrow before installing.... To get this download. When I requested the download I was asked twice if I wanted to add a program to the download which I course skipped. So don't blame you Glyn if you wanted to careful!

We've used FreeFileSync a number of times and it has proven to be a very useful and reliable program for doing server prep and transfer. I think the issue is that ALL of the stuff on Sroceforge these days is laden with the extra "stuff". You MUST do custom installs with any of the stuff that comes from there. Sometimes you can find an alternate download mirror for the same programs without the added nonsense that comes with Sourceforge stuff. For this particular program, you can see this on the download page: New: Donate and get the FreeFileSync installer without advertisements as a thank-you!
There doesn't appear to be a minimum donation required, you just click the PayPal heart on the lower left of the page if you want to avoid the ad-based installer. All of this is "for what it's worth", but as I said, this has been a useful program for us.

Thanks, I will keep it in mind I would rather pay than get it free and have to deal with a bunch of adware and worse. At the moment SyncToy seems to be adequate for my needs.
