Freeze Synth - strange behaviour *sigh*

freezing a synth does that but somehow the last notes and effects are cut off. Playing back the frozen part just abruptly stops near the end.

i've checked the reference guide but couldn't find anything related to that. oh well.

any ideas which options i must change/enable/disable?

thanks!

so, checking "track fx" in the options helped.

but why? i have no track fx inserted? it is an otherwise empty project except for four midi notes bounced via freeze synth!?

Is it actually missing the last note, or is it stoping before you expect it to?

When the synth is rendered to an audio file the render engine has to stop at some point, and the logical place is directly after the final midi message.  If that happens to be a note off message then the audio will cut off abruptly, regards of what you're expecting to hear (maybe a nice long decay from an analogue synth...)

The answer is to place some form of phantom message at the very end where you expect the sound(s) to have decayed out completely, a cc#7 to adjust the volume is a good choice as you can use it to actually mute the sound at that point.

The last note is bounced to audio for like 70%. So it is cut off in the middle. Strangely "Bounce track efx" did the trick.

Maybe this may help. Go into the aud.ini file and increase the bouncebuffmillisec (or soemthing close to that) setting.

Is this with every synth or just one?

Try extending the midi clip by a few measures and see what happens.

extending the midi clips HELPS a lot.

but for the perfect result I have to reactivate TRACK FX in the freeze options.

Not sure if this will help, but have you right-clicked on the track freeze button prior to freezing the track to adjust the freeze properties?  If I remember correctly, you can instruct Sonar how far to extend the frozen track beyond the last note by adjusting the number of seconds on the freeze track properties pop-up window.

I don't know if the "Play Effects Tails After Stopping" tick box effects freezing or not, given it's for transport, but I would give that a try (or a check).

But if extending the MIDI clips helps you've mostly id'd the prob. Add a dummy event several measures out and freeze away!

Zero? That may be your problem. 20 is defualt, not 0. Raise it to 20 or 40 and try it again

Also, what is the "Freeze Tail Duration" (the very bottom of the freeze options dialogue box) set to?  If it is set to low that would cut it off early as well.  Mine is set for 5 sec.  I always leave the tracFX box checked.  Even though you may not have inserted an FX the plugin may be using one.  With out it checked it will stop play at the last note-off on the track.

Just use the slip-edit feature to drag the MIDI clip out to where you want it to stop.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
