Freezing Virtual Consoles

Do you use 3rd party summing plugins like Waves NLS Non-Linear Summer or Slate Digital Virtual Console collection?  If I understand these correctly, you'll insert a plugin on the channel as well as the bus, and they will give a subtle mixing desk vibe to the mix.

It seems that the bus and channel plugins can be linked, so I'm wondering if I have an instance on a channel and I freeze the plugins on that channel if I'm losing some of the functionality/effect of the plugin such as the grouping function.

I'm asking because I'm looking for alternatives to the console emulations in SPLAT since I plan on migrating to another DAW.

Might not be an issue at all if the DAW you migrate to doesn't have freeze
