Not sure I agree that 250-800Hz is "muddiness" for a bass. Maybe around the 200-300 region but I find that adding a little 400 or 800Hz adds definition.

Yeah, I like a boost about 760-780 and cut drums and organ or piano. I think that's why being a right hand only keyboard player is a good thing. That's a lot of mud you don't have to fix. I have made a point of listening to see how many keyboard parts were right hand only and I've been surprised. It's more than I would have guessed.

When I bought a new Boss TU12H tuner back in the mid 80's - it came with a frequency chart that provided the exact frequency for every note on a piano. I was living on the road at the time, so time was something I had plenty of... I will never regret taking the time to learn (and understand) that chart. To this day I get stunned looks from sounds techs and monitor techs when I identify and name a frequency I want rolled back - or when a blast of feedback hits I promptly name the frequency to lower after matching the note on the guitar. I guess should add that I also had to learn to compensate this knowledge to apply to a 31 band graph.

What's the frequency, Kenneth? @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

There was a handy foldout that came with Bob Katz's Mastering Audio book that shows note frequencies and correlates them to ranges of different orchestral instruments. He sells the poster on his site for $25, but you may find a downloadable version if you search on "Carnegie Hall Musical Instrument Chart".

No I don't, but Boss can't be the only ones to have published it. I'm sure a search on the net will reveal something similar. I just did a google search for "notes to frequency chart" and a lot of stuff came up both on "net search" and "image search". For reference... here is a link that shows what the chart looked like (that came with the TU12H) ... but it's almost unreadable. http://www.bossarea.com/other/tu12h.asp

It would be far better to just save the image, as you really wouldn't want to be using your browser while recording/mixing...but that's just my opinion. Even better would be to have a print out handy for reference...or have it on a tablet...but again, that's just me...

Good point. Here is the thing though, I have a laptop that sits behind me on another desk. It is always online with the forum and I keep tabbed and bookmarked information ready at hand. I can always spin around and use that resource. It is a little more effort than my binder and notebook. The binder has printed out hints and details and the notebook keeps my hand written notes on what I have done in a project, so I know where I left off etc. A little nerdish and I don't always use these resources, but it is good to have ready.
