Fresh Country - feat. jamesg1213 & String Jammer

And who doesn't want a slice of fresh country?

We hired out a online session singer (Gregg) since Beagle was swamped and Bapu couldn't quite get it going on for this tune.

Fresh Country
(c) 2016 E. Kocol & J. Griffiths

Lyrics:
V1.
That Jazz goes down like Tupelo Honey
I’m here to tell you it leaves me cold
Hot Buttered Soul won't get my money

C1.
Gonna get a slice of Fresh Country
Bring it on home for me and you
There’s nothing like a plate of Fresh Country
Yeah girl that’s what'll see us through

V2.
Don't top off my toast with the Blues
Looking for something with a little more bite
Humble Pie's not the meal I choose

C2.
Gonna get a slice of Fresh Country
Bring it on home for me and you
There’s nothing like a plate of Fresh Country
Yeah girl that’s what we’re gonna do

V3.
Swamp Rock over okra’s too dicey
A dessert of R&B simply won't do
And Flamenco is just a too spicy

C3.
Gonna get a slice of Fresh Country
Bring it on home for me and you
There’s nothing like a plate of Fresh Country
Yeah girl that’s what'll see us through

C4.
Grab a big old hunk of Fresh Country
Bring it on home for me and you
Get us some of that old Fresh Country
Yeah girl that’s what we’re gonna do

If you ever get another one like this in this key, I'd love to give the vocals a shot. I'm not sayin I could do better but I would be free.  LOL!  It's a kicker!  Gregg did a nice job.  Your instruments were really great.  It's a hot tune!

Nice, cool collaboration Scotty, James, Ed and guest.  As you all know country not my thing but this level of musicianship I can enjoy, good job all round chaps.

Sorry about that, I fell asleep during yours and, when I woke up, that was playing (lunchtime digesting ).

Actually, I wasn't kidding and really did fall asleep, so I had to go back and listen to it again (a couple times actually - then the second song as well 'cause I really liked it too!).  What'cha gonna do?

Good job.... not exactly what I call country but I guess in today's world, just about anything can be called country if it has a fiddle played by Scotty .... and nice licks all the way around.  It has a kind of Little Feat kind-of groove to me. Not quite country but not quite rock.

I thought the vocal melody was a bit boring. It kinda stayed on one note for 3 lines in the verses and the chorus.   A little more variety would have been nice.

Yup... Forever and a Day played while I was writing the commentary... that's a nice song.

Yup. That's the problem with the fact that I could get it going on and then hiring a an online session singer. He more or less followed my flatline "melody" that I gave him for "guide".

None the less, I was fairly happy with his low cost result since his voice is stronger than mine.

i saw fiddle, and thought, wonder what Scott is doing these days...and lo and behold... and James nice to see you getting a bit more of a raunch on your solos after all that polite folk stuff!
now to the main platter - lovely playing guys, vocals are very good.. nice acoustic guitars and bass is, well, Ed-like.

Pretty tight mix. I thought Little Feat as well! For a crit, I think the rhythm seemed tighter in the second half. Something about the fiddle coming in just a tad early, particularly in the intro. It seems better and tighter as the song goes on.

anyway nice work, y'all come back now, y'here?

Good stuff.

Fiddle and guitar leads were terrific.

I did have problems feeling a groove with that part that starts the song and gets repeated a few times.

Thanks everybody! I had a great time jamming along with the boyz on this tune.
I agree with what you guys are saying about the intro getting into the groove. The drum pattern was off the first time around but came into it the second time around. Overall I thinks it's a cool song and I'm thankful for being invited along for the ride.

Sounds good!  Who doesn't like a little fresh country fiddle alternating with a little dirty guitar.

I agree with James though, there's something "missing" in the groove for the verse sections - the syncopation with the slight pause.    Otherwise it's fresh.
