Fresh info on C++ Runtime Error??
I started to get this error message suddenly. I've been trying to find some hints using forum search and Google. It seems there are such a huge amount of possible causes, that it's best to try to find SONAR-focused answers here first. I found several threads on the subject but not one offering a clearly explained solution. I did download the C++ 2010 redistributable pack but haven't instralled it yet. I'm aware of the some versions of Sonitus delay causing this, but I don't use it. If I read the situation correctly, the warnings started after inserting the 64 Vocal Channel. After that some other VSTs I tried to use for the first time (Toneboosters De-esser, Melda Multiband harmonizer) caused an instant crash, and after re-launching SONAR these VSTs got inserted without the UI, just as a grey box. This far I've been working on the project for weeks with practically no problems. It's my first project in 8.5. I'll try to continue on the project and see, if can find a pattern. I'm grateful in advance for any ideas!
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Kalle, Can you tell us the exact wording of the error message? Also, do you experience the same error with any project? You said you got the error message "suddenly". Does that mean that you have been using SPE 8.5 for quite some time with the same HW & SW configuration without any problem until this problem suddenly occurred? I'm not sure that I will be of any help even with the answers to these questions, but the more information you can provide about the problem, the better the chance someone on the forum will be able to provide some help. Good luck.

I found that if my computer is on line during the install a message shows telling me Microsoft needs to update Visual C++ and on it goes. This little netbook has 6 versions of it in the program list? The latest is 2008.I would think Windows updates should be doing this but then I have no clue what it's for anyhow :? I'm a fool and I trust Microsoft. Why don;t you just instal it? can't see any harm done.

Good luck. I shut down the music PC already, so I don't remember the exact wording, but I'll be back with it. It's the most standard one like "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error! ...SONARPDR8.5.exe abnormal program termination" As I did mention in my post, it started suddenly, in connection to inserting 64 Vocal Strip, and this is my first project in 8.5., and I've been working on it for nearly two months. The PC is not online so no updates have been made for a long time. Not that there would be any for XP that "C++ 2010 " pack excluded. Before closing the machine I rebooted it, opened the project, inserted first other vocal VSTs (Martin Eastwood Duet, DBB Vocal Intensifier) and played with them for a while. Then I inserted Perfect Space, no problems. Then Vocal Strip, played the project two times adjusting Vocal Strip, no problems. So, maybe I'll manage. But even if the problem was only accidental and temporary, I'd really like to know what caused it. @Cactus: I will install the C++ 2010 tomorrow. Thanks, guys!

Maybe you installed something that overwrote your C++ Runtime library. You can download it from the Microsoft site.
