Edgar Froese, founding member and keyboardist of the long-running band Tangerine Dream and an electronic music pioneer, passed away after suffering a pulmonary embolism on January 20th. Froese was 70.
 
"This is a message to you we are very sorry for… On January 20th, Tuesday afternoon, Edgar Froese suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna," the band posted on Facebook Friday afternoon. "The sadness in our hearts is immensely. Edgar once said: 'There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address.' Edgar, this is a little comfort to us."

    This is a year old, btw

    Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

    The only thing that is sad, is that the folks that were with Edgar and were (supposedly) working on the new process for TD, have created something that sounds ... exactly the same. If you listen to the EP out there ... Quantum something or other ... there are nice things, but Peter Baumann leaving, makes me think that he wanted to explore the "sound" more, and the folks that were there, did not know how to do that and they could only break into a song like piece ... and so in one of the EP pieces, you get this massive start, only for it to break ... into a song!
     
    I have a feeling that today's folks are not capable of doing something that is not "music", or a "song", and just simply try recreating something like Alpha Centauri, or Atem ... and in the end, it will not help the legacy go any further. Hopefully, this is just a teaser, and they have heard these comments ... and can go beyond melodic themes in the music, although I have to admit I am not holding my breadth on it at all.
     
    TD is very special to me, and my life. But I do not want to see them "die", by the hand of people that do not know how to trip and fly. To me, that's killing the music!

    Spot on Moshkito - Very special to me too ... thats why I am hugely puzzled how I missed this news back in Jan 15.
     
    TDream and I are very much their 80s stuff back and earlier Froese stuff also. I tended / tend not to listen to 2000's stuff on .. just didnt have that old organic feel for me.
     
    My TDream is 80s back and I am happy with that ..

    I'm just wondering if the Oscar Academy will show a nice picture of Tangerine Dream ... as a small tribute ... when they show a small list of folks that passed on. Edgar and TD did many movies, and deserve a mention! For this alone I do not want to miss the Oscars.
