Frontier TranzPort & Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

I just finished installing SONAR X3c on a newly-built machine running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. Everything works great, EXCEPT the TranzPort 1.5.0 64-bit driver. At the end of the installation, it indicates "Can't install driver on this version of Windows."

Everything was working perfectly on my Win7 Pro 64-bit machine. Did I paint myself into a corner by choosing Windows 8.1? Is there a method for installing legacy drivers under Win 8.1? Or, has this trusty TranzPort seen its last days as part of this rig? (That would be a shame. It has been a fantastic productivity tool).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes there is no Tranzport driver for windows 8 and windows 8.1 unfortunately.
I hope they build one cause it`s a nice piece of equipment.
    Peace

Same issue with my Alphatrack. There hasn't been any activity on the Frontier Design website for ages.

I had to install my Tranzport in a compatibility model (I don't remember but I think it was Vista).  It works in both Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8/8.1 64 bit.

    Hi folks,
My Alphatrack is working great on my Windows 8.1 (x64) box. Here's how (I cribbed this from another site on the interwebs):

If you want to install Frontier Alphatrack you must deselect "install device driver" in setup or it will quit with "not for this os".
Then simply goto Programs/Alphatrack and rightclick inf-file->install. Works perfectly!

I would suspect that this method would work for the Tranzport as well.

    Good luck

My alpha track works with Windows 8.1.

I have to plug it in directly to the computer. I can't plug it in through the Monitor's USB ports. But other than that, it works fine.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I have no problems with the drivers under windows 8.1 x64 though I needed to set the compatibity mode to windows 7 so that the installer will run.

Right click on the driver installer exe
Select properties from the context menu
On the compatibity tab check "run this program in compatibity mode for"
Change the compatibilty combo box to windows 7
    Click apply and then okay
Double click the exe to run

I'm glad this problem is solvable, for the time being anyway.

FYI, when it became apparent there would be no more updates, I replaced my Tranzport with an iPad running V-Control Pro, and have been very pleased.

I tried the V Control Pro, free version, and didn't like it.  Ney-Fi corrupted my iLok as I would get a message when booting up the PC that iLok could not be activated on more than 1 PC.  When I uninstalled Ney-Fi the iLok problem went away.  I also had to delete my Behringer BCF2000 from the control surface list as I had to install the V Control Pro as a Mackie (what the BCF2000 uses).
Finally, there is no option to have a footswitch for punch in with the V Control Pro and iPad.

As I noted, all you have to do, when installing the Frontier drivers is select compatibility mode (I think I used Vista) and it installs and works perfectly in both Windows 7 64 bit and Window 8/8.1 64 bit.  There is no need to circumvent the install program.

I rebuilt my system yesterday with win 8.1 64bit and was quite pleased that the Tranzport still works.  Since I can no longer use the Contour Shuttle Pro (v1) in Windows 8, I am going to have to get used to the Tranzport for this role.  It's funny because I have the Tranzport, the BCF2000, the Contour Shuttle Pro v1, and the Ediorol PCR-800 - all of which have transport functions on them, yet I really prefer the way that the Contour worked.  But since the V1 has been long-since out of production and updates, I don't really care for it.

There are two issues with the V2 software (which does work with a V1 device) that have been brought up many times before:
    1.  When Sonar doesn't have the focus, the Contour doesn't work.
    2.  The "shuttle" part can only be set to use a shortcut key, so the smallest resolution it can scroll is by measure.  This could be worked around in there were a keyboard shortcut to move forward or back by beat.  Has this been added in the X3 line?

    Thoughts?

Thank you, everyone, for the excellent information. Simply selecting "Compatibility Mode (Win7)" on the installer did the trick. My TranzPort is back in commission.

I agree with a previous poster: Great forum! Quick, relevant responses to my question. Thanks again.

Now, I'm going to get back to pressing the big, red record button...

Just to add to the waterfall of love for this thread... my Alphatrack now works under win 8.1 - I had given serious thought to downgrading to win 8.0 to fix this issue - so thanks to all who posted here.

I also fixed this by simply running the installer in win-7 compatibility mode.  Did a re-boot, plugged in my Alphatrack and all was well.

As an aside, when adding the control surface, don't forget to select 'Frontier AlphaTrack' as the controller/surface, else you'll think it's not working...

...not that I would make such a schoolboy error... <ahem>...
