    Increasing the version number by eight is one way of staying ahead of the competition. Not a very technically convincing way, though. But I guess they wanted to avoid the dreaded version 13 without going for the X3 variant.

     They are pretty much ahead of most of the competition. They only changed the name because it's been 20 years since they started.  MS skipped Windows 9.
