Fruity Loops/Sonar X1 wav export bpm discrepancy!!help needed asap

Ok Guys,

My mate has fruity loops and has exported a midi file to wav at 128bpm all lined up perfectly in his DAW, however when I import into my sonarX1 with the project set to 128bpm, the beats etc do not match my timeline, they lag a little and they actually lag more as the track goes on, can any one explain? need solution pretty quick.

Cian

    id try  and autosnap it.
you can line it up nearly perfect if its only off a little bit.
highlight the clip/click A on your keyboard to open up autosnap/
    select clip follows project.

any midi track or are they all wave?

charlie these are not just beats but also synths that would have delays on the etc

I dont have these particular synths in X1 so he is bouncing down to wav from his end.

I tried audio snap but it just ended up all over the place to be honest, would you just select audiotransients and then quantize the notes? it doesnt really work for me.

What about the clock setting on each DAW??

    After more work,

I ve figured that my friend is using WDM card (****ty windows soundcard) and that the delay compensation has been pushed quite high, after getting him to drop this to 0, the audio is lining up much better, however there is still a slight lag discrepancy (appears to be tiny fraction) which could be tweaked with the latency manual offset in sonars preferences.

If anyone has any other experience with this do share, thanks.

You have to transfer the file as a groove clip.  Then all should be good.

    Wave,

Is this just like exporting from FL as a groove clip? do you know what file ext. that is?

Should be a xxxxxx.mid file.   Right click the file and look under properties>details  should say type MIDI Sequence.  If it doesn't; export it out of the old program as a Midi Grove Clip if it gives that option.

    Cheers,

If your starting your project with that midi file I would right click on the file goto "open with" then choose Sonar. I never import midi into a project. Also, it could be a difference of two animals. Try getting two metronomes on the exact beat. There will be some drift.

with an imported WAV, if you groove-clip it, it shows you the "original bpm" of the clip

    thanks for you response,

but remember the whole point of this is that I dont have his synth sounds, therefore opening midi in my DAW wont play his sound? does a groove clip contain the synth sound aswell.

pwal, I groove clipped one of the wav files and then looked at clip properties in the inspector, it said something like 150 bpm (our projects is 128bpm) That has to obviously be wrong, it was only lagging a small bit, it certainly wasnt that number. Plus he could of changed his project from 150bpm to the current 128bpm but the clip could have the original tempo encoded.

I've come across this, in fact I do mastering for someone who works in FL.

This is the method we use:

    1. Export both a midi file and separately the wav files from FL.

    2. As Guitarpima said above, use Windows Explorer to locate the midi file then do the 'open with' option to select Sonar. This will ensure the tempo settings are pulled in correctly.

    3. Then use the import audio option to pull in the wav files into new audio tracks. You might need to hit Cntrl+L to set then back to non-looped files in Sonar to get then back into sync.

This works for me so I hope it helps you.

    Good luck,
    Toby

Are you mixing 44k1 and 48k bit rates?

A WAV file does not know what BPM it is supposed to have.
