Frustrated - Platinum keeps crashing
Working intensely on a project. No particular action - Platinum hangs-goes grey. 6 times!!! I have to close window. Trying to restart, nothing happens. I have to warm reboot and start the program all over again. Is the February surprise for subscribers going to be a fix?

A little more info would help. If a project is continuosly crashing I would suspect a plugin. You can load a project in "safe mode" by holding down the shift key when you open it. That way you get the option to load FX or not which may help pin down a culprit if it is a plugin. If it was common this board would be in meltdown so I think you'll find it's project specific.

It could also be system-specific. Some users with Roland Capture series interfaces who didn't update to the latest drivers have reported problems. Also check for graphics card updates, but don't install any HD audio drivers your graphics card may want to install, and disable any that have been installed using Device Manager.

Most of my crashes appear to be due to certain Kontact 5 modules and/or Melodyne usage in Plt.

There was an update to handle Melodyne problems shortly after release. Also check for Kontakt updates. I use Kontakt all the time without problems.

A simple and quick way to check your system out coarsely and reset sonar to a pretty clean state b4 resorting to a re-install, plugin check etc., would be to delete the aud.ini file then delete and reinstall your audio interface drivers BEFORE starting Platinum again, this will ensure that Sonar see's your audio inputs as New and does an optimization. I used to have this issue with a previous interface I used, and this is how I solved the problem back when I was using Sonar 2XL. I often find that these problems, when rooted, lead back to pilot error, your hardware, then finally software. Sonar is rock solid. Mel EDIT:I think I remember another quirk from the Olden Days regarding audio interfaces that may be hanging around... SOME audio interfaces simply hate it when the sonar midi activity icon is resident in the TASKBAR. Just a thought. Peace.

I would also try a "Save As". This will save your project to a contiguous part of your drive which basically causes a defrag of the project. I see you have SSD's so this may or may not be an issue, but worth a try. My bet would be a "plug in" issue as well, but the "Save As" would at least take some questions off the table.

sorry FreeFly, my post has an error(corrected). It should have said the AUD.ini file. That is the file that contains your preference settings, including what audio inputs from your interface were last used by Sonar. If you delete it, then delete AND re-install your audio drivers, Sonar will respond as if you were running it for the 'First' time the next time you start it. Hope that clears things up and sorry for any confusion caused. Mel

Hi OldTimerNewComer, where can I find the aud.ini file? I have tried searching the computer for it but to no avail. Cheers! Clement

Open Sonar and under the Help menu look for Initialisation files.
You don't need to reinstall drivers. The aud.ini file is recreated if one doesn't exist so it's safe to delete. It can sometimes become corrupt hence deleting it can fix the problem.
