Re: Frustration editing clip envelopes

I just took a look at this. I don't seem to have any problem.
I am going to guess that when you say activate/deactivate in regard to the envelopes, you mean giving or taking away focus, or in other words selecting or deselecting the envelope...not actually causing the envelope to no longer function in - for instance - controlling the volume or panning. To deactivate volume would mean all the sound comes out at recorded levels, or to deactivate panning might cause all instruments to play centered in the stereo spectrum. Just so we are talking about the same thing.
I normally don't use the click-shift to activate/deactivate (select/deselect) an envelope, but this worked when I tried it in a track. Using the smart tool, it changes to look like a capital letter "I" when over the track. If I shift-click while over an existing non-active envelope, the envelope became selected. If I shift-click elsewhere on the track OR right-click while on the envelope, the envelope became deselected. NOTE: This is not exactly the same for bus envelopes: For them, I needed to right-click as above to deselect, or set the Edit Filter drop-down to "None". Clicking on the bus did not take focus away from the envelope.
On tracks and busses, I was able to add nodes by placing the cursor on the envelope and left-clicking. I could move single nodes in amplitude and timing by placing the cursor on the node (cursor then becomes the four-arrow move tool) and left-click-hold and drop where I want it. Snap-to-grid applies here. I could move segments by ctrl-left-click-hold and drag 'n' drop.
