Fun little music project

There was a recent contest to come up with a theme song for the Zenoids (MyOuterSpace.com) William Shatner, Michael Gaicchino and Amanda Tapping were the judges.

I didn't win but thought this came out decently enough to share. It's only 39 seconds.

All sounds are from EW Goliath except the Strings which were EW Hollywood Strings. Yes I am a real guitar player...yes I used a midi guitar sound.  In my defense, I was going for a midi sound, let's not make me feel more weird about the issue than I already do....

PS (Yes, I have permission to post this as long as proper video credits are given to the Zenoids, which I believe they are)

Pretty cool stuff there. The music was good but I thought there should be more synding with actions. I'm a big fan of and always say that every musician can learn loads from Looney Tunes.

I think it's very good and it shows you put a lot of hard work into it.

    Very well done!

    Hey GuitarPima
Funny note, I think I didn't make it to the top of the contest because it had too much "underscore" flavor and not enough "theme song" flavor.  That's jsut a guess based on some comments I read afterwards.

Very different. It really struck me as a TV show theme song?

Did you have the video to compose too?

It seemed that you did as the musical hits seemed to line up very nicely with the changes in the video.

I thought that was excellent writing. well done.

Robby - Thats what I was going for, apparently someone else went for it better

Herb - Yes I had the video and was told the music had to be exactly the length of the video but that was really it for instructions.  Thanks for the compliment.

yep, I can totally see where they're coming from there. It was a great try, but no cohesive underlying hook to tie it all together. Too much Danny Elfman and not enough John Williams, if you see what I mean.

Paul - Yep I know what you mean.  While writing this I suspected it might not have a strong enough theme, but I hoped the energy would carry it along.  In the end, I was wrong.

Timidi -  Thanks for the listen and compliment.  They are still sorting out the winner, but the finalists all had more of a 'song' structure than my entry.  Ah well, live and learn

I never heard of a Zenoid but that was very cool!  I thought it sounded just perfect for a theme like that.  I'll bet those contests are rough.  I wonder what more of a theme they have.  It sounded just like a track that would fit that video.

Thanks Warren.  The Zenoids is going to be a web cartoon series on MyOuterSpace.com.  William Shatner started the web site from my understanding.

Thanks Janet.  I knew you had an inside scoop on this piece.  Unfortunately for you, instead of 39 seconds this has now taken up 1:18 minutes of your life.

Thanks for the confidence. I know if people elsewhere don't like my music and throw stones at me, I can always come back here and feel welcomed by my Cakewalk pals :)

Instantly made me think of the "Jetsons" for some reason. Very quirky track with an interesting arrrangement. It's hard to ignore the midi-sounding instruments, but if that's what you were after then fair enough. Interesting fun track.

Very well done - it worked brilliantly with the visuals, but maybe not quite melodic enough to be memorable.

Blipp - Welcome back!  Thanks for the listen, I was indeed going for midi sounds, real instruments would of been too serious sounding for this (I feel).  Hence the midi guitar...I still feel a little awkward.  Kind of like a drummer using EZDrummer for a track instead of his own kit lol.

James - Thank you for the listen and comment.  I do have a little theme in there that I bounced around and disguised as it goes on but in the end, you are correct, it wasnt memorable enough.

Jamesyoyo -  Thanks for liking the "YOINK"!
