Fun with Tom Petty

I did this a month or so ago. I love this tune but never quite got the video.

A thank you to my friend Mike (the paramedic) for some great vocals on this.

Enjoy!

I'm not sure about this soundcloud thingy. It looks wierd but it may be because I use high contrast theme. All this black text with white background stuff is loony. Why stare at a light?

That is pretty faithful to the original.

    Nice job.

It sounded like fun to record.

    Nice....very faithful instrumentation.

BIABDude - Were you looking for the main synth or all of them?

    Hey, Robert,

Really nice job on this great, slightly "edgier" rendition of the Tom Petty song!

Great playing, really good sounding mix, and your buddy Mike did a dynamite job on the vocals.  My only very minor suggestion would be to use a touch of automation to duck the main keyboard part just a dB or two, ONLY during the verse vocals.  I think that would be a quick, easy solution to what Auto_Da_fe mentioned in his comment.

    Fantastic cover, buddy, great work!

Thanks for the replies. I can make a quick automation change and repost it. I don't know how to replace a track on soundcloud yet but I'll figure it out. It's not a very good website since it won't show correctly in high contrast theme mode.

The main synth is "009 Dual Tromp....."  That's all that shows. I hate most synth GUIs as they aren't allowing for people with low vision. I just click on synth after synth till I find one that works pretty good.

I liked it. The mix sounds a little airy though(compression?). But it sounds really good. Agree with the other comments about. A little bump in the vocals or some automation on the other parts should be good. Really good!

Sorry been meaning to have a listen to this for the last week (you always listen to my stuff), just split with my woman and had to get some more download limit.

I don't know about this track, yea it sounds great, vocal, nice, nicely mixed (I am listening to it on my laptop speakers) really well played.

It sounds (sorry) cheesy, I think it's the keyboard sound or maybe it's that southern californian 1980's Hardcastle and McCormick feel.

for those of you out of the loop, Hardcastle and McCormick was a TV show in the early 80's staring a retired judge who lives in a movie stars house and has a Ferrari.  his last case is a punk with silly hair, he decides to give the punk a second chance but only if he comes and lives with him and chases the bad guys in the Ferrari, every week McCormick, the young punk falls in love with a damsal in distress and cue the cheesy 80's music.

What can I say Guitarpima, I loved the work but I can't get past the 80's, you got a Ferrari, we can chase bad guys in, rescue some dame in distress but never get lucky because some weird Judge stops us everyweek because we shouldn't take advantage on some young vulnerable woman.

    Peace Ben

The keyboard part is dead on.

The leads are better than the original, which were just too sparse for my taste.
