"Funkafied"
"Funkafied" it's a wav, you can download or stream it. https://app.box.com/s/8osdovnloumbv6hlriu0 a mellow, spacey groovy thing..... ....i'm not saying that if you are slightly altered it wont work as well.... ;) really experimented with clean guitar tones on this one... and a lot of walking finger bass.... the drums are completely synth, so this whole thing is a bit of a new twist for me. currently this one works as an instrumental.... but i'd like to try a different approach with it. i'm working out a lyric and melody for it right now..... would love to hear any comments or suggestions....

Hey B.B. It does sure work as an instrumental. Loved the guitar tones. And great bass stuff. I'm really curious what lyric/melody you might fit over this. Gonna be interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Nice cool southern-ish funk going on here... This groove has pockets. And while some of the guitar parts are a bit "experimental" I think it works.

stevecfunny that you hear the ' southern' influence.... i don't know where that came from, honestly, but i DID grow up in the south, so there's no denying it! i never think of my guitar parts as experimental.... only going exactly where i want them to go at that minute. i hear them as multiple melodies, sometimes they repeat, but mostly do not. to me, that's really where story telling is at, but a lot of people do not get it. they need things to repeat, and often, to reinforce an idea. for me, the whole thing is like a conversation. but maybe i'm just talking to myself.

Bat, Funky, cool song. Really good vibe you have going. The guitar layers are very well done. I like Rik's jam over the top too. It works as an instrumental, it could work equally as well with Vox. I would say you have a lot of options with this track. To me the layers of clean guitar are very reminiscent of Steve Vai, i.e Boston Rain Melody, mellow parts of The Riddle, etc... Not that it sounds like a Vai song but I can hear some similarities in the execution. Very nice track. Regards

I don't know exactly what it is, but yeah, I do hear that southern influence in there... glad to know I wasn't completely imagining things. Perhaps "improvised" would be a better term than "experimental" in this context. But improvised can still have a theme or concept or story. I get it.

markno999 appreciate the comments on the funkafied tune, i like vai's stuff, for sure.... it never occurs to me that there is any similarity. still, i think it's cool to have elements that trigger memories of favorites...... the riddle, i DO know of that one, that's a cool tune. i guess i DO tend to orchestrate guitar parts a good bit, and of course, sir vai is one of the best at that. my background for thinking that way, goes all the way back to learning piano (classical music) church choir, and reading music.. and realizing that the sum of the parts are more important than the individual pieces....

stevec i often imagine things! LOL improvised... yes, sometimes it does feel like improvise, but usually not. i mostly work out the ideas in advance, and want the sections that 'feel' like improvised, to go in a specific direction. i try to introduce little mini melodies, and some counterpoint, so it does feel a bit off the cuff, and there are no strict rules, but it's mostly worked out.

6finger thanks for listening LPMIKE hehe, you know, my old boogie gives me some of the best ultra cleans i've ever heard, but all the guitar tones on this one is a POD XT. i think i used the LINE 6 clean setting, and might have used my outboard Barber Tone Press for compression. i let the old pod xt go a while back, just could not bond with it... but before i did, i used it for a few experiments, and this was one of them. i ran the keyboards into it as well, thru a marshall stack, i think....
wookie glad you downloaded it... that seems to always sound better than streaming. it's got a little bit of 'keys' in it, i should do more keyboard work. lost all my chops. warren thanks man, glad you dig it. i'm working on the 'song' version right now. the bass, was my Carvin LB70, in passive mode. i think i went into a SANSAMP bass di, but it could have been the POD.... m_glenn_M thanks man, yes, lots of delay, i REALLY wanted this thing spacing out, with a lot of ambient stuff going on, and sparse clean guitar..... seems sparse to me, but thats going part by part.... put them all together, and it's pretty busy! LOL

Nice! I love the bass a lot. I don't like the strings for it. Needs Roto-sound swingbass strings for this. I love how you have the guitars playing two separate things that mesh together for a stereo effect and all the rest of the atmosphere. Very well done!!!

LYNN thanks for listening, and you are welcome about the info on the arc2. i mean, obviously it's not for everybody.... but it helped me in my situation. i have a 4th bedroom in a basement setup, that i have stripped down to the sheetrock, and gutted... and plan on doing an upgrade in the future.. but for now, have it setup as an open studio, and have done a certain amount of sound treatment... and the arc just helped dial in the stuff i could not upgrade, without spending a LOT of money to get that last 15% dialed in....
so for me, it was a no brainer. it's cool that it has the other 'virtual' sound curves... since i've gotten it, i've used laptop, boombox, the old yamaha ns10 curve, to spot check mixes, and it's a nice tool to have.

guitarpimaappreciate the comments.... rotosound, yep, i have a 2nd bass, i've been thinking about setting it up like that, just for those kinds of bass tones. the idea of the multiple guitars (there are actually 4 active guitar parts, and a 5th for chord filler, and a 6th for ambient) doing different things, but have it all come together, was always the plan... and it's harder to do than it seems. well, harder to do and make it actually work..... some of the parts are improvisation, so i REALLY HAVE TO LISTEN... but it's easy to empathize a part, when you already did the first part. i mean, i can actually HEAR multiple parts at once in my head, so the trick is just to actually execute it. then, i edit myself as i go along, if i play something and i know it didn't gel, i'll go back, erase the whole thing, and start over, til i get one good pass all the way thru that actually works. it may take me twenty passes, but by the time i do the last one, that part will be dialed in. and doing it without punching in, gives it that 'off the cuff' feel, almost like the whole thing was improvised. the arranging of those parts, is what makes it work for a 'stereo' effect. all the effects are mono effects, but panned in different places.

I love your heavier and "fuller" sound but this is also fantastic. Nice and funky - toe tapping and also engrossing, in my case probably because even though its got such a clean sound you really have got so much going on all working together. I just wish it was longer! Cheers, Terry.
