Funny Man

A new song I penned recently - don't ask for the inspiration as I can't answer that one, it just came to me. I've been building songs recently using EzKeys and I know that splits opinion but I think it's a great song-writing tool - especially for non-pianists like me - and I'm still on a learning curve with it. The lyrics and melody however are all mine however so I consider it an original.

Anyway this is just piano/ Rhodes and vocal so there's nowhere to hide - there are vocal errors in there I know - not for nothing is the guitar my primary instrument of choice! ;-)

Anyway - enough rattle from me - here's the link: https://soundcloud.com/andyb01/funny-man

All constructive feedback welcome

Andy

Very nice Andy. I realy like the melancholic chord changes - they suit the song subject. Despite your comments, I like your voice - it needs to come up in the mix.

I always mix and listen through headphones so the level sounded about right to me but people are always telling me the vocals are too low in the mix (probably because I don't much like my own singing so your kind words are appreciated). Got to be honest - my mixing and production skills have a lot of room for improvement. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Andy

I would suggest moving the mic back a bit when you record your vocals. It would help make your voice sound more natural. Your voice isn't bad at all, you're in tune and you've got vocal qualities that can cut through a mix.

Nicely done. Nothing wrong with your voice. Vocal volume seemed ok to me but I'm home listening on computer.

While I'd prefer the vocals more centered and the piano more at L/R, I do like what you've created.   With a full band mix I can imagine this as something an artist like Billy Joel would do live.

Thanks the vocals are panned dead centre but I agree with you that they definitely don't sound that way. Something going on in the mix there I need to look into. Billy Joel eh - that's quite a compliment. 🙃 Appreciate the feedback. Andy
