Fur Elise by Beethoven played by me
Okay I know I made mistake on some parts but main reason I want upload this. Is to show people even with my very very mild cerebral palsy I can play. And get some advice on my recording set up if I should I try protools m power or stick with tascam dr07 mk2 or use both. Thanks http://soundcloud.com/mar...-8/fur-elise-1/s-cye31

You play well - I like this. I've never recorded a piano before - or an acoustic guitar, so I don't have a lot of advice. I will say that you recorded this very low - and when I turned it up - there was a lot of hiss from the mic. That aside - you have a lot of talent.

nice job on the piano tune..... I remember "having to learn" this ...... at the instruction and dictate of my piano teacher..... that lady was ruthless. Good job. The volume is very low as has been mentioned. Uhhhh... instead of PT or some other competitor...... how about MC6, a nice interface and a condenser mic?

Better than I can play, so it is great as far as I'm concerned. Nice to see the classics getting their turn around here. can't answer about the pt or tascam, but what guitar sez about mc6, the bottom drawer sonar and a solid interface. Mics are a whole thread. @

Thanks everybody and I own sonar x2 essential the only reason I didn't use it was because I have the tascam dr 07 mk2 handheld recorder. I'm just not good audio fixer lol

I like the tempo and pacing. It was nice to hear someone treat this piece as if it is somber, elegant, and thoughtful. The recording was difficult to listen too. I downloaded it and boosted the levels by 24dB. I'd say that you should work towards using the manual input level controls on the DR07 and you can safely boost them 18dB over what you had set for this recording. The noise floor from the HVAC was very high, meaning that the signal to noise ratio was very low and I could hear that the mics in the Tascam captured a resonant peak in the mid range. I would consider the placement of the DR07 and make sure that it is secure so that it's light weight body does not resonate and add to the peaking in the mid range... where was it? Are you playing a upright or a small grand? Do you have access to the sound board? In general, you want to get close to the sound board to minimize the room noise... but you need to balance that against a desire to capture some sense of the room tone. If you get too close to the soundboard the recording will sound unnatural and sterile. So, work on getting more piano, less noise, but keep some room in it. Try to turn of the HVAC when possible. ( I work in a lot of remote locations where it is not possible... so try but if you can't just keep making music ) One of the marvelous things about your recording is that it does have lots of room tone in it and this makes it seem very natural and pleasing. I have a DR05, it has a small mounting screw hole. I imagine the DR07 does as well. Get some adapter hardware and mount it to a mic stand so that you may place the mic where you want. Don't let the for factor of the DR07 prevent you from getting the mics where they need to be. FWIW, I did a level boost and a couple passes of noise reduction passes on your mp3 and it is much easier to hear your nice playing. If you PM an email address I'll send it to you and you can consider uploading that to SoundCloud. Thanks for sharing. best regards, mike

Good job on the playing Marcus. Yes there is hiss on the recording as previously mentioned and it was recorded too low in volume.

Nice playing! One question: did you record with metronome? If you did you should try record without it, it will sound more freely. As been said its a bit low volume but nice natural acoustic room.

Great playing! I don't know much about piano, but it sounds like you have a nice touch (I don't know if that's even the right word to describe it). I guess dynamics is the right word. Nice dynamics.

Very well done, Marcus. Mike's ideas are great about the mic, etc. I don't suppose you have access to a midi keyboard? Then you wouldn't even need to deal with a mic. Anyway, great playing. It sounds lovely!

Thanks yall. No I use the metronome for practice but recording no I play with feelings. Yeah dynamics lol Yeah I'm using a digital piano to record and with the tascam dr07mk2 mics. I was thinking about using my Ivory American steinway to record my work but I had hard time setting up Ivory touch with my digital piano touch.
