Fur Felt Fedora Hat --- Complete re-recording incorporating suggestions made
It has been a while since I have posted on the forum as I have been undergoing some medical treatments. I have a couple of weeks respite until my next (and hopefully final) treatment begins. So, I am taking the opportunity to check out the forum and post a song. Oh yes and I must apologize to anyone, if I did not respond to my last song posting (I got side tracked by the above). A while ago I became enamored with fedora hats. I guess I was watching too many film noir flicks. So, I thought that I should write a silly little number in respect of my favourite chapeau. I tried to do it in a wee bit of a Jump Blues style and was going to add some horns. But I didn't. I thought that the horn parts could be done by vocals -- you know, like they used to do in DoWop songs. I'm not sure that it worked but hopefully it got close to palatable. I hope you get a giggle from this one and as always comments, suggestions, crit.'s, etc. are appreciated. FUR FELT FEDOR HAT http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=963481 Freddy J

I cant remember the last time I felt fur... If I could improve this, I would help the drums pop a bit more, it seems to need that. Most everything else is right where it needs to be That snare needs to crack buddy.

I like the song. It seems fun. If I had a chance to mix it I'd pump up the piano and slide the drums back towards the back line. I like the backing vocals a lot. Not sure what to make of the guitar. Hope you continue to feel better!!!

Nice little snappy tune there Freddy. I had a fedora like that a while back in my Indiana Jones days, but I think I lost it on one of my adventures. The song sounds good and fits your kind of music style which brings us all back in the days gone bye. Very nicely done and I can appreciate it. Peace and Blessings, John

Hey Freddie- nice boppin' song! I might suggest bringing the drums in harder on this - make that snare pop - right now it just kind of flops. I'd also suggest less reverb on the vocals. they sound like they're completely different space than everything else. nice work, tho!

Hi Freddy, fun tune. Maybe a bit to much (long) delay on the guitar ? Rik

Fun tune! +1 to the above though - for me the vocals and guitar both have a bit too much delay/reverb. Raising the pitch on the snare a little might be cool too.

Please pardon me for not responding individually. In my brief respite between treatments I took the opportunity to go out of town for a while and I wanted to respond as quickly as possible. Thanks to all who responded. I very much appreciate the comments and I got the message loud and clear. I have adjusted the EQ on the drums to get more "snap" out of the snares (not re-posted yet). This is one of those songs that I was working on when my system crashed and I lost my working files. Sooo, I was essentially trying to master the mix that I could salvage. I couldn't tease out the individual tracks. In order to fix the delay issues I am going to have to re-record this number. I will probably not get this done and post it until after I compete my last med. treatment. Thanks for all of your kind well-wishes. The prognosis looks good. Best Regards, Freddy J

Hope all goes well Freddy. Yeah, a little less reverb on the lead vocal and it will be just creamy.

I like the vibe too. And am in agreement with the above comments. As it stands at the moment the songs sounds small. Need to get those drums sounding alive. I l love verb, but even for me it's making your track sound distant. A few small fixes and the production of this piece could be move out of the basement and straight onto centre stage. Keep up the vibes. :)

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. As I mentioned above this was a song that I did a while ago but when my system crashed I lost the working files. I thought I could salvage it but unfortunately not. So I have done a complete re-recording incorporating as many of the suggestions of which I was capable. The vocals have been recorded with a bunch less verb. The guitar lead was also recorded with very little verb. I am using drum loops and tried to EQ them as best I could and even tried FX on them. I think that I have a bit more snap on the snare but given my limited capabilities I am not sure that I can get any more out of them. I hope that this sound better than my attempt at restoration. Thanks again for your suggestions.
