GUI Request

Hi,

I'm  a Cubase 5.5 user and composing for movies. I love cubase but, at my previous work, i had to work with another composer who uses x1 at his studio. so i really liked x1's midi editing way."track pane" is very handy. I found X1's midi handling more confortable than Cubase. ProChanel is also unique. Gui is fine.

But there is a problem that i guess most of the midi people hate. Visually, everything is  so BIG on X1. Strips, buttoms, faders, control bar etc. Why? for hyperopics? Most important, minimum track height is not minimum enough. I'am writing orchestral music and working with about 150-200 tracks. I can not see big picture on X1. Yes, folder tracks are handy for management but I also HAVE TO see most of parts at least  about %80 of 200 tracks on arrange window at the same time. This issue is only reason why i don't switch from Cubase to Sonar yet. I hope X2 will be "resized". :)

Also, sorry for my English.

Thanks.

If you want small, go Apple. Nobody can see those screens.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

There are a number ways to see more tracks. First is minimize the track inspector. Get rid of the control bar. Don't use the multidock. Get rid the track headers

This setup can be a screen is your screen sets.

If the MIDI notes seem too big in PRV zoom out.

And the best way is use dual monitors.

If it's just a navigation overview you need try using the navigator view. Either above the main TV by pressing Alt+N or in it's own view, selected from the Views menu.

That may or may not be of any use depending on your needs.

Thanks but i think i couldn't explain. Lets look at these screenshoots.

     At  1920*1200 resolution:

In Sonar X1, you can see maximum 32 channel (without control panel 35).

In Cubase, you can see max 69 channel.(including  transport bar).

Cubase 6..the one I have, is very very small when compared to X!. My eyesight, which was never that great to begin with, really prefers X1 simply because of what you just show there...

Whereas I can understand your issue, I would have written that as "in cubase you can display max 69 channels" I cannot SEE anything. :)

The only suggestion i can have is either a rotating display or one of those mofo 30" ones... or...also dont discount a minor change to habits..?  i had thought orchestral composers viewed the orchestra in sections?...which would give you about 12-20 groups or so? personally it is such a yawn to be scrolling all the time to find something...

32? Are you sure that's not more like 18? You been doctoring pictures?..... (Old joke)

Seriously as far as I know there's no way of showing that amount of tracks including track header in Sonar. Feature request it maybe...

After flying with sonar for a few weeks, I have to say that I was totally wrong :D. Sonar's GUI, screensets  are amazing! It's interesting that although  i can see less visible track on arrange window , my projects are more organized on X1. Cubase was very tiring and messy Daw for me i don't know why.

    Welcome to the family!

I think you're on to something here ...

But as a matter of fact, I do also agree with you initial statement that it would have been nice to be able to zoom out more.

    Best Regards

And if you group instrument tracks to folders it gets even cleaner. Great feature.

They've progessively increased minimum track height and button size since Sonar 4 (like the Mute and Record track buttons), unfortunately. I still much prefer doing mixdowns in Audition. I also not fond of the small fader height in Sonar and find it frustrating that it is not adjustable. Sonar - great for writing/recording, a little overly clunky for mixdowns.
