bitflipper It's amazing that Lewis and Clark found their way to the West Coast with out an iPhone 5. :-) Fortunately, the natives had one and could point the way. The Siri tribe were especially helpful. does anyone (besides me) watch Big Bang Theory? there's an episode where Raj "falls in love" with Siri. I LOVED the ending to that one!

bluzdog I think I've decided the iPhone. Hmmmm.....4S or 5? I don't like the idea of the lightning connector for some reason. Rocky Well that is just the thing mate, there exists no real big difference between the 4, the 4s, and the 5. Siri, ok, and maybe better graphics and faster chips as you progress through the 3. The big problem, is the ios was a lot nicer, and way more privacy oriented, and not so tied into twitter and facebook when I first got my iphone, which must have been around ios 3 or 4. ios 6 is terrible. I think you are deciding to go with the iPhone 5, and honestly, I am not sure if that is the greatest decision. IMHO, before you do this, you owe it to yourself to give the windows phones a good look. Android sucks.. I plain, "do not like android." Mostly because I can not stand google as a company, but believe me, the innovation factor from Apple has lagged, and lagged badly since the passing of Steve Jobs.

My company was going to go to Windows phones and that is actually when I made the decision to get my own iPhone and get on the company re-embersement plan. My issue with the Windows phones, about a year ago, was that they just did not have many apps that were written for them. My experience has been that the iPhone/ iPad apps come out first followed by Android. That is probably changing a little with the Galaxies starting to take over market share. In my family we have a 4, 4s and I have the 5. Honestly, my wife's 4s is not much different than the 5. I went with the 5 because phone contracts are usually for 2 years. If you get a 4s, you will be starting out a couple years behind the latest model. That may not matter to you. I plan on getting another one when this contract is up, so I am just trying to stay current. The 5 is a little faster than the 4s because it is 4G LTE. As far as the lightening plug goes... I really like it. It can be plugged in either direction, there is no up or down. My phone charges really fast, much faster than the old plug.

If you like, want, or need a lot of apps, then there is not even a question, windows phone, at the current moment in time, will not work at all.

So with the iphone you have to pay a fee every month right.. 30 or 40 bucks? I have never had one so I am not sure of the details. With the S3 or HTC do you also have to pay a monthly fee and is either the iphone or the (HTC/S3) a brick without some monthly data plan? I need to buy two smart phones really soon, like today or tomorrow... the tape that holds the trackball in my blackberry is coming off again... it is time. Thanks, J

I worked with a guy who has a galaxy...not sure which model it was. We were often working as a pair and so I would hear his comments on the phone quite a lot. His two biggest problems with it were 1. The screen GUI is such that he would constantly be accidentally touching the wrong controls. In trying to do certain things on the phone he would have difficulty. Didn't appear to be very user friendly. 2. His battery didn't last very long. He would come to work fully charged and his battery would be drained before the end of the day. The battery in my iphone 4 and my wifes iphone 5 lasts for days. I am a little upset with Apple for going to the lightning connector, but in hindsight I can understand adding something that makes the phone lighter and allows the connector be put in any way you want. Unfortunately the accessory makers might take a year to catch up. In the interim you can buy an adapter that works with most accessories, and the phone comes with a matching charger. I have the latest iOS and have not had any troubles other than the aforementioned Apple maps. Apples attempt to get in on maps.

I just talked to my daughter who has an iphone. She said that she and her husband have a shared plan and they pay 176 dollars a month, 450 shared minutes, 20 dollar data plan (unlimited, they were "grandfathered in" to the unlimited plan). I have the same sort of thing on my Blackberry but I am pretty sure I will lose it if I leave RIM, which I am going to do... My other daughter is visiting from Germany. She has an HTC and said it costs her 20 euros a month for everything because their laws are different. I really don't like spending so much on a cell plan but I guess there is no alternative. I use AT&T because I get coverage pretty much everywhere, especially when I get out in rural areas. I hope I can keep my 6,000+ rllover minutes... So... data plans, texting plans (I don't text unless I have to). Is everything pretty much equal whether I go with the iphone, HTC, or S3 ?? Of course I will want to use some sort of interface and cardslider... are there any considerations in those areas that might unplesantly surprise me... I really know nothing about any of it. Quality is important, not dropping calls is very important, price comes after but does matter to me. Thanks, J

I pay something freaking ridiculous for my iPhone unlimited data with AT&T, something like $120/month. I'm pretty sure I could whittle that down a little if I looked into the different plans properly, but every time I sit down and try to work out what's going on with the charges I get confused. Plus when it's a business expense it's so easy to just think "screw it." I see these companies like Metro PCS that offer "everything" for like $50/month but I can't help but think that you get what you pay for.

AT&t now has an unlimited voice and unlimited texting, shared plan where you get to chose the amount of Data you want to share, 2g, 4g, 6g. Comes with Tethering as well, which I plan on using when traveling for business. I thought the rates were pretty competitive for 2 phones. It fell with in my companies $85 a month allowance anyway for my half. iPhone works well with the forum too, this response is from my phone.

Thanks Mike, I just got back from my local AT&T store. That's the plan with 6 gig shared that I'm going with. They couldn't set me up with a phone because their system was down. I think they talked me out of the iphone in favor of the Galaxy S4. Rocky

Well I was thinking about trying the HTC One when my upgrade comes up in May but apparently it has a fixed battery that you cannot switch. That sucks for heavy users who don't get a chance to recharge during the day. I ended up spending $90 on a bulky charging case for my iPhone, I don't want to have to do that again if I get another phone. Maybe the S4 is a possibility after all. Or maybe I'll just stick with my iPhone. Dammit, why do I always feel like I have to upgrade anyway?

Linear Phase You are 1000% better off WITH an iPhone. Do not even trust or believe this Samsung fad. well, you buy what you like but all the evidence stacks up against this comment...Samsung currently outsells Apple 2:1 and Android installed base has grown to more than 3x that of ios, and Android was recently voted "easiest to use" over ios.. an os that has not substantially changed in 6 years...mebbe HTC will overtake Samsung..who knows and who cares.. Android is currently unstoppable. my ipad was the single most useless thing i have ever purchased.... absolutely everything else in my house will talk to each other and share media... Blackberry, Samsung phone, Sony TV, Sharp DVD player, HP computer, Dell laptop.... and then there is the iPad...sulks in the corner like the fat kid that nobody wants to have on their team..
