GarageBand to SONAR Artist?

Hi there, I am getting back into home recording and researching entry level DAWs for Windows. I was hoping to try and figure this out in a DEMO version, but since there is no demo version and I can't seem to find the answer, I'll just ask. I apologize in advance for any stupid questions because I am new to this. But one thing I'm trying to get a handle on is if SONAR is able to Import and edit GarageBand tracks including SmartDrums?  Thanks!

Simple answer is no, Sonar cannot import these tracks. Not saying one is better or worse, but they are very different. Garageband is probably closest to Acid Pro among DAWs but lapped Acid years ago to the point where it is like a light version of logic with simplicity of Acid. It does have it's shortcomings. I don't believe you create buses for one (this is as of the last version I used).

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the reply AND the "simple answer". I find I'm really appreciating "simple" these days. I don't plan on staying on GarageBand, but I've a got few songs and ideas that I was hoping not to have to recreate. (Although I must say, I do really like how quickly you can get something down, limitations and all.) But I figure once I'm up to speed on a DAW, I won't look back. Just hoping for a bridge to get there I guess. Thanks again!

Best of luck. One of the best things about Sonar is that the forum is very helpful on getting you up to speed. Going from a great but limited app like GB to more advanced DAW is a challenge,  but one you will get the hang of in no time.

    Welcome to the forums mibby!

There are no stupid questions about how to use something you know little about. EVERYONE in here was at where you are at some point.

You can use  midi files and place them with soft synths or wav. files into tracks in Sonar. You can't use files with the Garage Band extensions because Sonar can't covert those
