I wonder if the eVoucher can be combined with the one I got when I regestered Komplete 9? I am guessing the answer is no.

Second time this week I got slapped for running XP. Boogers. Oh well, it's not like I'm running short on compressors. EDIT: I was able to trick it into running on XP, but only in demo mode. The problem's not with the plugin itself, just the InstallShield installer. Sadly, it turned out to be about as useful as I'd convinced myself it would be when I thought I wouldn't be able to use it. IOW, on par with any other dumbed-down compressor, but with a little grit if you click the "Dirt" button.

I got the freebie compressor. And was going to use the voucher for a machine expansion...but couldn't log into my account...even after several tries. email and password correct but kept getting "service unavailable" dialogs. Sheesh.

Me too. But that was two hours ago. So I just tried again. Now NI is up and working and it let me sign in to get the freebie.

NI has indeed been very nice to us these last few Christmases.. Downloaded the compressor and put it through its paces alreday.. Nice color and character.. The dirt button is a little too gritty for my taste though..

The "Dirt" button is an interesting addition for a compressor. Sheesh, is this what we've come to? "Tape sims", saturators, exciters and console emulators on every track, "colored" equalizers, and now even extra distortion in frickin' compressors? Enough with the distortion already! To give NI credit, the "Dirt" effect is a fairly unobtrusive 3rd harmonic (mostly), 12dB down and no measurable aliasing. But my biggest complaint is metering: the lack of a gain-reduction meter and the output meter's -16dB to +4dB scale. When I tried SuperCharger on some vocals, the output meter barely moved unless I seriously cranked the input, but because there is also no threshold control, changing the input levels also changes the amount of compression. Scaling the meter like this just encourages clueless users to violate basic headroom principles. Add to that the lack of attack, release and sidechain controls and you've got a seriously dumbed-down processor. Granted, there is a "Punch" button, which presumably switches to a faster release. You can't dumb things down much more than that.

As I've said, people always pine for what we no longer have. Back in the day, some of the highest priced compressors were ones that were low distortion. Now we have flawless digital compressors, we want the distortion back :D. Humans are funny.

What this did do is make me take another look at Klanghelm's DC1A 2 since it has just been updated. I like using a compressor on my VB3 Hammond B3 VST. Until now I was using Audio Damage Rough Rider. I was hoping the Turbo Charger would give me the grit I like on the organ but as I stated previously, a bit too harsh for my taste. Then I downloaded the DC1A update and really liked the subtle saturation it adds to the signal. In any case, I'm sure the TurboCharger will come in handy on a particular track one day!

Yeah, us win xp dinosaurs. Left adrift, and do we really need it? I f you can install on a win 7 or later, copy the dll to win xp and it runs the thing in the demo mode at least for 20 minutes. Respect for the NI guys offering a good freware. Good unit, but doesn nothing available elsewhere better for free or at moderate cost. Passing reference was somewhere here for Klaghelm's comp. Killer comp with advanced settings. Recent critical upgrades/fixes. NI's comp is moderate cool, and can't argue the price, but check out the Kalg unit. Serious contender IMHO. Got a free limited version in there somewhere that is at least as quality, functional as the NI freebie. http://www.klanhelm.com/ John

You would probably love the Thrillseeker VBL by Variety of sound. http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/released-thrillseekervbl-vintage-broadcast-limiter/It's 32bit, but works fine in Sonar and is free. I also have the DC8C2 and it's pretty good too.

Since this thread has been high-jacked and the subject changed, I'm going throw it back to NI's Gifts. I have an number of NI products over the years and they do make good stuff, regardless of the company being liked or disliked. I downloaded this compressor, and I'll bet it will be quite good for some things. One can always try it & then uninstall it later, if they don't care for it. But I'm thinking odds are it will end up staying installed. Thanks NI!
