Obi I'm sorry, BUT, Jimi's performance at Newport '69 (the Dual Showman rig) was the absolute LOW point of his career.
Now if you want to talk Monterey or the Hollywood Bowl in Aug '68'; that's a horse of an entirely different color.
I was at the Bowl, passed on Newport, a friend went, it was abysmal!
Search YouTube for Newport '69, or DON'T.
Trust me, if you're a Hendrix fan, you don't want to know!

Looks like an old Fender head.  Not sure about the cabs but the colors are Fender's.

lol! .....I always liked free, although in some cases, ok in a lot of cases, free can work against ya. Those sofas along the road and Jim Jones Koolade are good examples. In this case it looks like another great deal OBI. Thanks

Well, the man did use a Fender to record Voodoo Chile. ;) I think he could have played anything. Just like he had some painful gigs using his wall of Marshalls.

I'm with you Rain. The rig never really matters. It's the player  and anyone, even Jimi, can have a bad day.

There's a story floating around where Ted Nugent and Eddie Van Halen swapped rigs one night because Ted said EVH had to get his sound from his rig. They both still sounded the same with another's rig.

My understanding is that Voodoo Chile is a Blackface Bassman into a Marshall 4x12.
    Never a bad thing.
Best tone I ever had (with a Fender rig) was Blackface Bassman into 4 pre-rola 12's

I "get" its "not the rig" BUT, if I want some of Jimi's tone; I'm looking Marshall, not the Silver Face Showman.
Fine for Bass or PA, we did that alot in the day...

I'm also more into Marshall myself, but my old Marshall combo/'59 Bassman rig was pretty much the best I've had. I had the bottom end and heaviness for power chords, the defined mids I needed for my usual work-out-a-texture-within-the-chord thingie, and the perfect balance for lead.

Within reasonable limits I'm a very firm believer in the "it's not the rig...it's the player" axiom.  My two closest friends are also guitarists and I've worked with scads of pros over the years...especially my Nashville years...and It never seemed to matter who's rig someone was playing on...they sounded like themselves.  Plus I've heard waaaaaay too many renditions of songs like "Little Wing" on every kind of rig known to mankind...and played by every kind of guitar player too.  And they ALL have a very striking resemblance to ol Jimi's tone.

Had to convince myself of that early on - it isn't the rig. We weren't exactly rich, so I grew up playing very crappy instruments - couldn't even afford a case, so I used to unbolt the neck to travel to rehearsals and gigs. Didn't own an amp either, so I played anything I could put my hands on - more often than not, the little Traynor practice amp I borrowed from schoolMan, I sucked - I wouldn't have wanted me in my band. lol

And in such a small town, quality instruments and amplifiers were nowhere to be found, except in the houses of a few more privileged fellow who had imported them. I mean, I never saw a real american strat in our local music store before I was 25 (and I bought that one right there on the spot). The best instruments they carried were little Korean Fender Squier. Bought my first Marshall used, from someone who had "imported" it.

Incidentally, as such, I remember that one of the fine amps I managed to rent for a gig happened to be an old Fender Showman. Sure seemed nice to me at that time. :)

A very small town in Quebec, Canada. 11 000 folks, including the surrounding areas. The closest "real" musical instrument store was an hour away by car, but I had no mean to go there, anyway.
