Get There "Brian Johnson" Contemporary Gospel -Recorded on SONAR X1a

There has been so much dialogue about SONAR X1a been hearing the good, bad and ugly.  I figured I would just use it for what I got it for "make music; make money"

Looking for some professional feedback...

Love the funky vibe, great playing and vocals. a really nice song IMO.

My only crit might be to lower the stab by just a fraction, and the strings as well, I really noticed this right around 0.25 right before the first verse.   It's not as noticeable later, but it still might not hurt to turn down just a fraction.

    Thanks, for sharing.

Nice clean mix. Not my genre, but it's funky in a good way. Lead vocal seems just a titch back. There is great separation in your mix, so I'd nudge the vocal a db or so. Other than that, real nice work.

Awesome vox man.  Reminds me a little of Aaron Hall, especially when you get to the pre-chorus and chorus.  With pipes like that, I'd nudge the lead voc up a little bit too.

"make music; make money"  (that sounds quite scary to me to hear that ... with God's music ... I hope you didn't mean that?!)

This is a crowd pleaser, to be sure, with a lot of wow-funk going on, gospel cliches, *praise and worship*, etc.  But, as a Christian wanna-be, this cup of tea is half and half:

... it grates the ears after 3-4 minutes ... forcing me to turn it off.  That is the only fatal thing, IMHO.  OTOH, if while I were rolling skating I might could sustain all 5-6 unrelenting minutes with great joy; but no where else.

Mix: 7/10 ... 10/10 if shortened to 3-4 minutes or kept in the roller rink.  The mix I detected is pristine perfect, to my ears and does not need any adjusting ... at all.

Message: cliches / hooks ... 8/10 ... while sensual gospel-like CCM, the funky-cartoonish pomp, IMHO, taints a credible gospel conviction to my heart (Christ's death burial and resurrection conviction).  IOWs, Gospel cliches and yuppy hooks may not truly befit a sighing groaning (spiritually awakened) Christian.

Arrangement: 5/10  ... There is little thought given to song-structure that I can detect ... other than AAAAAAAAAAA.  I'd have hoped for AABA, AAAAA, ABABABCBC, etc. to make this more pop-worthy.  And/or this song could have had 2 sections and/or varying tempos.

    Performances: 10/10

In sum: I personally love this for roller skating (10/10) ... but seriously hunger and thirst for more non-cliche lyrics ... and/or a more proven song structure (for repeat listens).  My opinion may change another day.

Reading the remarks from others I can see the points made. So If I were to
imply that (I) think this is "just right, needs nothing" it wouldn't be meant to
say that "in my view" I "don't think" tweaks could be made. It's just that I
as a listener want to just play it, sit back and enjoy. That's what I'm doing
now so I just sort of "take it at face value".

When I first started listening the quality, tone, performance and "everything"
was just sooooo nice. It would be like me saying to a music buddy "man check
this out" Those vocs are awesome and the "take six" type of harmonies are "nice".
When it first started playing I was like "WOW" Then as it went on I'm thinking
wow when another part came in. Then I like that next part too etc.
It's a joy and a pleasure  to listen to.

great mix...enjoyed the tune but it was a bit long for me...just kinda lost interest for the last couple of mins.

    A+ performance

not a big fan of the ending just dropping off...I think I would started fading @ 3:43 and been out @ 4:02

    Good job!

Jimmy took the words out of my mouth, and he can say it better than me.  Sounded just right over here.  If I have to single out something, it's that the fade seemed unecessarily long and drawn out.  This is not to say that it didn't sound good, but if you're thinking of going commercial with it, you don't want folks punching out before you're done.  Not to detract from my overall impression which is that this was an excellent piece.

Nice funky gospel groove happening there....

The loosely defined style is common in "black gospel" as opposed to the more classic style's Philip was referring to in P&W and other styles.

I thought nice job as I listened.... most of the smaller nits have been covered so I won't recap them here.

On money.... yeah, God doesn't just drop it from the sky.... And I believe it was Paul who said a soldier is worthy of his pay..... We have to be active and doing things, and God will bless us according to HIS will.

    GuitarHacker (Herb):

Paul stated in 1 Tim 5:18: "The workman is worthy of his hire"  ... "Not greedy of filthy lucre" (Tit 1:7 and other places) ... both, IIRC, are applied to evanglizers, deacons, and / or pastors with utmost discreetion.  Paul (a tentmaker), IIRC, did not accept money for himself either ... groaning to not be a "hireling" or such.

As for hireling singers ... hirelings don't care for the sheep because they're hirelings (Joh 10:13).  Hirelings have their treasure on earth (not heaven) (Joh 10:13 and Matt 6:20)

Hireling *Christian* singers, etc. are not poor in the U$A.  God's poor are in Haiti and places outside the U$A.  Some, hustle Christ for a living ... full time; people have to survive and work, I understand.  They don't have employment like Paul did.  Still, they're hirelings who really don't care for their flocks ... else they'd work like Paul and give the gospel for free.  Actually, your/my FICA taxes help do what deacons did.  And the USA seems blessed ... without hireling Christians.

"Help with the gas you say?"  I have nothing against "helping with the gas".  Its the filthy lucre hypocrisy that I sigh and groan against, here.  "Gospel" is God's music, IIRC.  You witnessed "black gospel" in my latest songs (Devil's on My Soul, Heaven's Skate, and/or Big Blue Sky) and I hope:

to refuse $$$ for anything Gospel (IMO, for the same reasons that Paul refused $$$ for the Gospel); that is an abomination to me currently, and, IIRC, the scriptures align.

Despite my hypocritical greed for fame and fortune, the sriptures state that the love of $$$ is the root of all evil ... IOWs, $$$ plus fame are the abomination I sigh and groan against for Christians.   *Christianity* suck$ big time.

And U.S. Christian hirelings tend to waste alot of the filthy lucre thrown at them ... but rarely help God's devastated families in Haiti, etc.  And that my soul knows well.  'Tis our taxes and many agnostics that ministered to the Haitien poor  aka, Christ (Mat 25:37).

Enough of my dribble.  God bless you for chiming and supporting Mr. Listen.  We're all hurting on issues now.

    Mr. Listen:

IMHO, you might be happy to compete at OurStage.com (Christian section) ... where artists share your paradigm of slinging for fame and fortune.  This might even make it in the top hundred in their Christian section ... despite its intolerable length, etc. ... since your hook is almost immediate (a good thing) ...

... where similar funky producer-loopsters abound ... with 'top-shelf' hip-hop producer-loopsters and rapsters ... with their 'top-shelf' Christian cliches ... battling against the non-producer loopsters, the CCMers, the cowboy christians (with their texas cowboy hats), the sensual album pictures, smiling faces, etc.  Many, IMHO, are subconsciously hustling Christ for their own glory.

"They have their reward" (Mat 6:16).

Wow great vocals!  Nicely recorded.  I am listening on ear buds...Granted nice ones, but ear buds just the same...

My only comment is the key hits panned all the way right and left come in too loud in my ear buds (scared me the first time and was ready to turn it down/off).

Other than that, I think the song jams!  I love funky gospel music!

Wow great vocals!  Nicely recorded.  I am listening on ear buds...Granted nice ones, but ear buds just the same...

I will have to listen that way - never honestly thought how it would sound in buds..
