So you are mad that they are putting out freeware? Sounds like a way to get people to try something for free and then spend money. Don't get why this is such a bad thing. Plz explain.

Hi cclaary,
I think you can get it - I already own Amplitube3 and was able to get the compressor (the other 2 freebies are already part of amplitube). I just updated the TRacks CS and it was then available for 0 credits

Just consider me the IDIOT Police....

These companies PREY on the Dumb insensibility of the masses.  They also hire
marketing "geniuses".  You have to remember it's about MONEY....not logic or reason.
I know companies need to make money.  The best way to do that is to not only
seek new revenue streams, but FIRST, take care of those who have already invested
in your company.  They will continue to do so if you do.  It's purely common sense (which
is NOT so common in the Corporate World).

Simon, that is FREE if you don't already have T-Racks.
I already own A3 and T-Racks CS Deluxe.  I already OWN THESE.
Anyone who does gets NOTHING.  So the FREE AMP and CAB, and
FREE COMPRESSOR, are only to those who really haven't purchased anything.
If you haven't purchased T-Racks YES this is free.  If you haven't purchased
Amplitube YES this is FREE.  If you HAVE....you get NOTHING.

One day, hopefully, people will WAKE UP!
Why do you want to buy things from a company that basically says...
WE HAVE YOUR MONEY...NOW GO AWAY....

GREAT PROMO!!!

KevWest

Kev, I'm not mad....I am merely stating the OBVIOUS.
IK has a history of NOT taking care of existing customers.
They already HAVE their money. Therefore they MUST seek
NEW customers - EVEN AT THE EXPENSE OF EXISTING ONES.
BAD BUSINESS MODEL....

Unfortunately, consumers, being DUMB SHEEP, will still FLOCK
to IK every time they offer something.  Not because they should,
but simply because HERE in the FREE WORLD, we are bred to be
consumers...we MUST have the new stuff...EVEN IF THEY KICK
US SQUARE IN THE TEETH...we will say "Please sir, may I have some more?"

My rants stem from the fact that IK has CONSISTENTLY ignored the existing
customers, in favor of NEW BUSINESS.

I don't have a problem with them seeking new business...I have a problem
with them seeking new business at the expense of the existing customer.
(see my RANTS on their FAILURE to update the SampleTank Line for
5 years now) ...oh yeah...but one is promised late this year..so,
JUST WAIT.  Yes, I'll wait, even though for the past 5 years you've
done NOTHING with these products...such a great way to invest your
money.

Do as you will people...pay no attention to that man behind the curtain....

Cclarry, you have finally seen the light.
You have taken the blue pill.
When you do, you stay away from IK.
I won't even sell my products since it might get them a new customer.
It just sits unused in my account.. :)
I will never, ever support a company that piss on their existing customers as they do.
No matter what they release in future, even if 64bit...

I really don't get all the hostility towards IK.  Other than the whole Sample Tanks thing I've always been happy with their products and have gotten some of the best deals in the industry on superb apps.  What kind of revelation is to discover that companies are in business to make money?    cclarry, what do you do for a living?  How can you live with yourself for doing it for money?  Oh the humanity!

Cakewalks does the exact same thing.  Many long time Cakewalk customer have been begging for years for things like notation but we get touch instead.  That is definitely catering to new customers while ignoring old ones.

I completely agree with this assessment...also, they've been asking for color
customization, and that never happens either.  Instead, we get FLUFF...

I've had this conversation also...

But, at least Cake gives the EXISTING customers the Freebies...not
those who really haven't spent a PENNY on product...and they have, up
until recently, supported their existing product....That's the
major difference here...at least they have that much common sense...

I love the Amplitube amp sims. Great sounding sims, especially the newest releases, like Fender and Orange. Lower CPU usage than most of my other sims as well.

Here is my biggest deal with the current system, every time they add something, I have to down load the whole new released program. I did that today to get thw 3.11 release. Now I can't get Amplitube to recognize that it's been changed to the newest version. It just keeps telling me that I need to install the latest version to try out the amps...and didn't give me the new Metal Lead amp sim. It seems like their would be a simpler way of doing this than going through hours of downloads every time something is new to the Custom Shop.

My only complaint with this freebie advertising is that as a full amplitube 3 registered user - the ad doesn't state that the freebies are already included in full purchased products of amplitube and t-racks.

I wasted 45 minutes downloading and reinstalling customshops cause it kept saying I needed to, which turns out I did not need to - then to find out once I was in customeshop that I already had these freebies.

I just wish in the future that any advertising clearly stated that items were already in other products that may have been purchased.  IK makes my head spin when I actually DO want to go in an look at a deal/test etc.  the banners in customshop go by so fast I thought I was gunna get epilepsy.  slash, Hendricks, free , orange wait what?  I kept trying to click on the free banner and kept pulling up other things.  like playing wac-a-mole.

That's because most of them HAD NOT BEEN UPDATED IN ANY OTHER YEAR...

There's that also...

But iThis and iThat got plenty of attention over the past few years...and I DO MEAN PLENTY!!!
Funny how, when you work for a company, you say the silliest things, because you work
for the company.

I have no quams with you Obi, but I do take issue with the ludicrous defense you TRY
to apply to the company's neglect of it's already PAYING customers...

If I were to list the updates applied to any of the aforementioned programs,
prior to THIS YEAR, the TRUE nature of IK's "neglect" over the past few years would be self evident.
NOW, put the SampleTank line into the equation...and THAT is where it REALLY shows...

Sometimes it's best, for YOU Obi, to just "bow out" of these conversations....
DON'T TAKE THE BAIT...

There is some kind of bug in the custom shop.  I get the same errors even after updating.  I just ignore them and somehow it gets done.

Here is the release history of Amplitube...

which has NOT had an UPGRADE since 2010...
If you consider minor point increments being updated then so be it...
but I do not...they are merely fixes or keeping up with OS change...NOT UPDATES.

uh Amplitube 3 has had 13 patches/updates in 3 years.  I'd call that fixing and supporting the product.

6 updates/fixes for T-Racks.

using your numbers.

I think your being a bit hyper critical.  considering that Sonar hasn't had a X2b patch to fix the problems.

I'd say IK are doing better than Cakewalk.

I'm not a huge fan of IK but come on, they have released hardware, software functionality , new products and bug patches.

What do you need in Amplitube 4 or T-rack CS extreme 4 (sorry to many versions to remember what exact version they are on)???????

iCrap sells.  Sells a LOT.  It is big business.  would you be happy if they just dropped the iCrap line and went out of business?

I'd also like to point out that since 2008 many companies have had to realign, change staff, move their companies and some have just plain gone out of business.

Want to really see mad - go check the Audio Ease forums and see when Speakerphone 2 is going 64bit or when Antiverb 7 will be windows available.

There has been a thing called the recession going on since 2008.  come on, so IK went and devoted a bunch of resources to a emerging market to stay in business.  wooooo sue them.  They still supported their own pc/mac products at the same time.

Amp3 orange, fender, slash anniveresy Hendrix, and the specialty boutique items.  T-rack had a few new models.

Everyone knows that sampletank has had no love.  IK had repeatedly said that it's comeing and close 2013.

sorry rant over.  I should just stay away from IK threads in forums.  way too much heat.  sorry.  continue your bashing.

I don't get the hostility either Machine Claw. Pod Farm has not had any significant updates since Line 6 switched to the HD series of amp modeler s. I've basically dropped them and don't use their sims any more. IMO Amp3 has significantly passed them up in this time frame with the new releases of Orange, Fender, Hendrix and some of the newer high gain amps like Solando and Jet City. I don't really care whether they call it Amplitube 3,4 or 5, as long as they keep adding sims.

I actually think their packaging adds benefit to me. I don't own the actual Amplitube 3 sims, only the specialty packages like Orange and Fender. I got to choose which part of the program I wanted and didn't have to pay for a bunch of other amp sims I probably would never use.

@makeshift....This has been my approach also. I have Fender, Ampeg and use my Jam points to buy credits and add what ever effects or mics I may want. It works for me.

While I don't feel hostile about IK, I personally find it a little frustrating that every big sale or giveaway clearly caters to new users.  Something like 50% off all gear for a week or something would satisfy all users instead of making the giveaways gear that is part of AT3 or Tracks Grand, etc.  I have bought many IK products aside from some of the recently (last year +) AT 3 or Tracks gear that is not part of a bundle (Trex pedals, carvin amp, etc.) and these rarely if ever go on "sale."  I really don't like having to back into a sale by loading up on gear credits when the credits are on sale.

Speaking of which, I know IK has pointed to the Microsoft XBox credit system in the past as precedent for its system.  Looks like Microsoft is dropping its system.

None of this is the end of the world, just a customer who spends a lot of money on audio gear, who would prefer not be annoyed while trying to spend money. speaking :)

I know Obi and Peter don't make these decisions, so it's not fair to direct frustration at them; plus they are paid go "rah rah rah" and cheer everything IK does. (I get it, I have a job too!)  However, it would be nice to get a statement from a decision maker at IK once and awhile.

I have NO hositlity towards IK...as a matter of fact I LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS!

I have a strong dislike of their "customer relations" and their marketing tactics...
and their SEVERE failure to support PC based products.

As GMON says....why is that these companies "give" things to people who
haven't even spent a penny, while those of us who have PAID hundreds,
if not thousands of dollars for their products are left "high and dry"???

That is my first point in this thread...secondly...

If they invested 1/10th of the time, over that past few years, that they devoted to iCrap
on their PC based Products we'd be at Amplitube 7 and T-Racks 8 and SampleTank 5 by now....

THAT is my SECOND point.

Fanbois will ALWAYS be fanbois....as long as "they" are content, they could care less
about the rest of IK's customers, or their Corporate Failures...that is clearly
evident HERE in Cakeland also...as long as they are ok...they don't give a crap
about how messed up things are for everyone else...

I, on the other hand, DO.  I want companies to act responsibly....use their resources
WISELY, and deliver...to BOTH the NEW customer AND the EXISTING one...

THAT, to me, is GOOD BUSINESS and GOOD NEIGHBORING...

And if THAT is WRONG...then I'll just be wrong...

I would say IK is better than most at giving customers both new & existing than most as well as keeping their software up to date, ST3 aside.  If you already have everything they sell (that you're interested in) just what kind of deal are you expecting them to give you?

Odd's are a good portion of what you do have was obtained during group sales that give a ridiculous amount of software away for free, to both existing and new customers, more than I've seen any other company do with their flagship products.

IK have decided to go the ala carte system with CS and apparently most like it.  They don't need an Amp 4+, TRacks 10 etc, they just need to keep the core programs updated which they are doing, there's plenty of new Amplitube/Tracks stuff to buy if you want it.  ST3 will probably be the same.

Who are you to tell them what to develop for in the first place?  They could easily have decided to exit the PC business and concentrate fully iStuff, they haven't there has been plenty of PC development in the last 3+ years,  they don't owe you or me anything and it isn't our place to tell them how to run their business.

I'm not an IK fanboi, in fact I haven't bought anything new IK has put out since they began their CustomShop, just don't care for the model, but I'm certainly not going to bad mouth them for no rational reason which is what it seems to me, you're doing.
