I can hardly wait for the BROWSER and NOTATION expansions. Part of me thinks a few of the 'expansions' were mentioned as odd weaknesses in Sonar X1 by some reviewers.

The website states: "Buy the PC4K S-Type Expander / Gate and the upgrade to SONAR X1 Expanded together for only $79/€69/£59 (you must own SONAR X1 Producer to get these products)." Will this include all features of Sonar Expanded (i.e. Softube Saturation)?

I'm very happy with X1, and I think its a splendid accomplishment of coding that has been wonderfully planned to create a comprehensive and productive experience for the end-user. I also use other types of DAWs, movie editing and graphics software that have required additional update patches almost as soon as they are installed on my computer! Given the vast complexity of software and hardware diversity and interaction, it is understandable why programmers are offering these in most all types of software applications. I appreciate and applaud Cakewalk for their ongoing efforts to make X1 a better product.

Despite some miscues (the "global" snap debacle, for example) and lingering issues (you can export clips by dragging them to Windows Explorer, but not by dragging them to the Media Browser, even though the help text says you can, which is perplexing and seems like a bug to me), I'm thrilled with SONAR X1 overall. As I become more comfortable with the new paradigm, I find I really work much faster in X1 than ever before, and that's without learning all the new bells and whistles yet. It has also been quite stable on my DAW, and I haven't run into any problems there (although admittedly that's probably because I haven't really pushed the envelope, pun intended). I must agree that some of the features in Expanded, notably the browser functionality, seem like they should either have been incorporated to begin with or included in a patch. Requiring an upgrade to gain capabilities that arguably should be part of the initial product offering feels wrong. However, putting that gripe aside, I think the new features that are legitimately new and add capabilities that weren't implied in the initial release of X1 are valuable enough to justify the upgrade prices. I'll be going for the full ProChannel enchilada because I really like having that sort of power integrated with each channel (as opposed to buying and inserting VST plug-ins for the same effects) and, barring some sort of horrid, show-stopping bugs, will consider it money well spent.

I don't really want 'Expanded'. But I do really want a vertically scrollable Pro Channel in X1's Track View. I'd even pay you $1.72 for it.

What's happened is that the Cakewalk programming team has bifurcated and half are on X1 and the top guys on X2. Seriously..... they are all probably working on X2 now and maybe there will be X1d released with some of their work on the way to X2.

Andrew Rossa [Cakewalk ] Fog Andrew, if you can't answer such a question then sadly I'll wait till x2 (or whatever it is named) to find out what marketing thought was a good move (I'm tired of 2nd guessing most pro audio's companies marketing dept's , not just cakewalk) . It will become transparent with time if the add-ons are part of that, and what with updates normally being near the end of the year..... I can wait. If you can state it's not part of x2 then sure I'd go for it, OR that owners of it aren't "re-buying" it later but without that guarantee the cobwebs can stay on my wallet. I've had this with DP already, do I need 3 of them? not really (I would have liked if I could give the other 2 licenses to a charity or something to make use of) Trying to be objective, I can understand on 1 hand you don't want your rivals knowing your marketing for recent months and that you have different types of customers . but well it's become tiring with so many companies, for want of better words "pulling the rug from under your feet" . I respect IK-obi one for actually stating (on this very forum) the pricing (and lack of change) regarding their black/white amps. If companies do that , I have more time for them. Hence why in their case they got my money instead of NI "models" of the same amps , due to previous marketing stunts. I am sorry you feel that way. I can't speculate on future versions or pricing but what I can say is that we have always tried to take care of customers and give them fair upgrade pricing. We will continue to do that moving forward. SONAR 8.5 customers got the best price on SONAR X1. SONAR 8 customers got the best price on SONAR 8.5, and so on. I think past history shows that we do take care of our customers and take that into consideration. This thread was created to help answer any questions about pricing or availability. Let's keep it focused on that. There are already other threads in this forum that go into other issues regarding the release. Thanks. Looking at the comments above it doesn't seem very compatible with the below statement, if you want Z3TA+2 for instance: *Z3TA+ 2 is not part of SONAR X1 Expanded and is available as an upgrade to qualified customer for $49/£35/€39. It will be included in the SONAR X1 Production Suite for customers who are new to Cakewalk. So to upgrade to the package that new users will get it will cost £59 + £35 (£94.00). For £60.00 to be on the new base level of Sonar Producer I might have been tempted (a nice good value for money interim price, for a tempting interim thing), but this for nearly £100.00 I'll probably just stay exactly where I am until X2 comes out. The price is not a bargain, and in this economic climate, that's the only thing I'm looking for.

I triple double this comment. Having a fixed vertical layout UI is ridiculous in 2011. ridiculous! I've been a Cakewalk customer on the upgrade cycle since before Pro Studio was released and have only skipped one upgrade in all these years. But this is one of the weakest releases. I'm particularly negative toward the idea of charging an EXTRA $49 for a gate/expander. And the gate's big benefit is that it fits into the Pro Channel UI (which on a laptop has the usability of a stubborn donkey frozen in a glacier)? Further ridiculous. DL White SteveStrummerUK I don't really want 'Expanded'. But I do really want a vertically scrollable Pro Channel in X1's Track View. I'd even pay you $1.72 for it.

People have probably picked up on this and order like crazy;) I managed to get through without a hitch ca 30 minutes ago. Besides, it's nothing new is it? Isn't the cakestore always a little buggy when new stuff is released? I still haven't downloaded anything so I'm curious how well it will download when I get to my DAW
