Get tracks as mixed, but without the undo data

My senario:
- I have a big multitrack record from our recent rehearsal
- I need to separate the takes for review with the band
My approach:
- because it does not work to separte the takes, copy the tracks and paste them into a new project (error message: new project has different audio settings [which btw is not the case!]) I saved the whole rehearsal as a different cakewalk file
- this takes over the whole data (which is btw. 14 GB in my case)
- then I cut out the respective take (I delete the rest) and save it again as cakewlk project file that I just stored the "big data" into (hoping that I'll get just the remaining clips with the fx per track/clip)
- that indeed is not the case: I always have the original 14 GB AND the edited bits of the song/take
My trials:
- to come around this I tried to export the resulting take (with different ways)
- but this will mix the tracks into a track per track, which means I will not have the original tracks with the fxs anymore!!
My qustion:
- how can I cut out a part of a bigger record to get the original tracks AND the fxs used to be able to still edit the original material, but without having the big data bound to the project?

Thanks,
André

Hi. Do a save as, and select another / new folder. Check to make sure all is well. Delete / archive old when finished.
All the best.

The bit you've missed is you need to bounce each clip to itself (Bounce to Clip) which will then only reference your edited clips. Then do another "save as" like Ken mentions, copy audio with project, then delete the original.

Well, thanks to both of you for your feedback!!
-> to Ken: (Hi. Do a save as, and select another / new folder. Check to make sure all is well. Delete / archive old when finished.
All the best.)
-> Answer: This is what I did before also. The result is that the "Save as ... " command starts to copy all the big data to the subfolder that the project was started with, even if I deleted the most of it to get the explicit take I want to stick with for further editing ...

-> to Bristol_Jonesey: (The bit you've missed is you need to bounce each clip to itself (Bounce to Clip) which will then only reference your edited clips. Then do another "save as" like Ken mentions, copy audio with project, then delete the original.)
-> Answer: The "bounce to clip" thing seems to me as a "summarize what has been edited so far", which is what I do not want here. I simply want to cut the take out from the whole rehearsal record and go on with that "original" data (fxs as applied and still editable)

Maybe I have overlooked something from the field of copying parts of a "big" record to paste it into a new project ...

Any hint about how to ship around that odd error message I get when doing so? ("Audio format does not match the source format") which is not the the case, as far as I could check the settings:
- driver info (Asio, triangular dithering)
- sampling rate ("44,100 Hz")
- bit depth for records and rendering ("16"/"32")
- bit depth for rendering ("original")
These settings are also set in the new project (my default settings).

I definitely do not want to somekind of "mix-down" or summarize any track setting; I just want to have the same recorded data as the big multitrack contains, but just narrowed down to the take I want to focus to. And of course not copying 14 GB each time I extract the next take ...

Any hints about that?

Thanks,
André

What I think you're missing from the Bounce To Clip scenario...  When you cut or slip-edit a clip, Sonar still retains the massive original clip with the edits on top.  But the original clip is still in the project.  By Bouncing to Clip, you're formalizing the changes and the original clip will no longer be in the project.
Bounce to TRACK is what will mix in the fx.  That's not included in BTC.

Bang! Case solved! Thanks alot, Slugbaby!

The workflow now is:
- separate the take in the big rehearsal record
- delete the rest and move the chunk to position 0
- before I start editing the mix I mark all tracks/clips and apply "bound to clips" (which starts some processing on track level ... which is what made me doubt before, btw ..)
- I save it to the take file in new (sub-)folder
- to get rid of the "big data" the project need to be closed first(?) (the project seem to block the files still after the "bound to clips" command)
- then I can open the "small" take project with all the original take data and can start to edit the tracks ... (with just with the small track files alone)
- new audio data size: 585 MB (vs. 14 GB before!) (which is awesome ... :-))

After all, you made my day, guys!! :-) Thanks again!

Yes, you're absolutely right. I posted this before my morning coffee, so things were a little "fuzzy"
