Getting Addictive Drums 2 on to Sonar Platinum..... HELP!

Hello!  I recently downloaded and installed Sonar Platinum, which is up and running, however, I cannot find Addictive Drums 2 on Sonar Platinum, but it is on my computer....I can look in my directory (Win 8.1 x64) and find AD2 and open it and it seems fully functional. However, there is no Desktop icon (like for Dimension Pro x64), so after i exit the program it disappears. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong or I'm not aware of something that the Members of this Forum may be familiar with.  Side note: I've had to uninstall Platinum and reinstall all related programs 2x because when i used XLN's installer after installing Platinum there were issues: (I received a message from XLN installer saying "Could not install because the Vst 32 and Vst64 plugin paths were the same") and honestly, I did not really know what to do at that point, so basically I decided to install AD2 first (which seemed to work). The other thing I want to mention is that my computer is brand new all around. I have been searching the Internet as well for help and I really haven't been able to find any so your help would be greatly appreciated!

It is likely "Addictive Drums 2.dll" is not in the SONAR VST scan path. SONAR will only look for the dll in the paths defined in Preferences > File > VST Settings. Find where you installed the dll and add the path to your preferences (or move the dll).

Moving to SONAR forum. This is an installation/configuration issue.

Hello again!  OK--found the dll files via windows explorer while searching for Addictive Drums 2.dll---there are 2 apparently.  One is c:\program files(86)\steinberg\Vst plugins--- the other is c:\program\steinberg\Vst plugins...My next question is which one (or both) do I move or can I just add these paths to the Sonar Vst Scan path? Or something else entirely? And are these the plugins I'm looking for?  Thank-you in advance!

Just add the paths to your sonar vst scan path. Yes those are the files you are looking for. Personally if you are using x64 version of Sonar, I would only worry about the 64 bit dll- not the one in the x86 directory.

Hello!  Thank-you Brando                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I did as you suggested and it worked and it didn't work:                                                                                       I am able to open AD2 from the Insert synth, Vst2 tabs and it creates the multi tracks however, a pop up                   window  opened up when I added the new path and when I opened AD2:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  " Addictive Drums 2                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Wrong Binary Location                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   This Binary is not the same as the one updated by XLN Online Installer.                                                                   Please check your path settings by clicking the Advanced button in the XLN                                                             Online Installer and make sure it matches the plugin path setup in your Host                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        You are now running from: c:\Program Files\Steinberg\vstplugins                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The XLN Online Installer thinks it should be in: c:\program files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins "                                                                                                                                                                                                         The above ad2 pop up window opens up again when i open up ad2 then the XLN downloader window opens                 up gives me basically the same pop us message that sonar did....But AD2 opened! I just don't know what                   to do now that the "binaries" aren't right. Just throwing info out: My version of Sonar Platinum is X64                         (I verified it) / My computer is brand new no nonsense on it I got this set up just for Sonar Platinum....If                    anyone can figure out what I'm not seeing here please let me know I would think this whole AD2 install                      would have went a lot smoother...Thanks to everyone who is/was trying to help!

It appears XLN got confused by the multiple install attempts.

Either do as the popup instructs, open the XLN installer, click the advanced button, click the VST64 tab and update the path to the current dll location "c:\program\steinberg\Vst plugins"
    or
copy the dll from "c:\program\steinberg\Vst plugins" to "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" and remove "c:\program\steinberg\Vst plugins" from Preferences > File > VST Settings in SONAR.

Thank you scook---I'm sorry to reply late this thread seems to be split I first started posting in "Problem Reports" and now it's here but I also have the same thread in "Software"--- Right now I'm in process of re installing Sonar Platinum---I had even contacted XLN 3 days ago via e-mail to try to fix this---they replied with a standard receipt of message reply, then actually got back to me with this message "Hi Thanks for getting in touch. Sorry to hear about this issue you have been having with AD2. It is caused by an earlier release of the Sonar installer which Cakewalk have now fixed for new users."---they sent a "New" online installer--- and unfortunately, it's for a Macintosh os x. (This is not the one I've been using I just saw this now!) So I let them know I'm running win 8.1 (64x) and tried to explain exactly the issue I'm having with AD2 and sent that out in an e-mail. Right now I do not know if they are going to send me an "improved" online installer--or just a recommendation for installation...So, again, on a brand new desk top computer system with no nonsense installed dedicated solely to Sonar Platinum why I can't download and install these two programs especially when they are both automated? Am I the only one experiencing this? Is this a win 8.1 thing? Have other products had these problems? Is this common? Well anyway, I am going to wait for a reply from XLN before I go through this whole process again...but, I do appreciate your help--- i just wish this was easier.

It would help us to understand your post a great deal better if you could break it up into paragraphs.

Please stop reinstalling Sonar as it will not help your problems. Your problems are most certainly to do with settings that we can help you figure out.

OK!  Trying this again---I re installed everything (took a break for a while) and I am back to the XLN Audio installer telling me inside an orange bordered "Cannot Install" pop-up window: "The 64-bit and 32-bit VST paths are the same. Click on the Advanced button to change this, then try again."  I hit the "OK" button then go to the Advanced Options and I have three tabs to play with: 1. "Addictive Drums 2": Current Installation path (C:\ProgramData\XLNAudio\Addictive Drums 2\Sound Data\), 2."VST 64": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\) and 3. "VST 32": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\)  I need help with this: why is this error happening? There is absolutely nothing else on the computer except my Scarlett 18i8 and MBAM free version (passive). Am I the only one this error is happening to? Please with any advice given be VERY specific, please omit nothing! I am not extremely tech savvy--not totally stupid either, but assume I don't know, I will not take offense: at the end of the day I just want to get this running--I still cannot believe on a brand new computer and a brand new install--letting Cakewalk direct and XLNaudio direct the installs that I am getting error messages...OK, enough of that I am here with the "Advance Options" window open waiting for a solution---Thank-you in advance!

C:\Program Files(x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\ should be the path for 32 bit VST's

It may be having a problem with the 32bit and 64bit VSTs being directed to the same place(?) - they may have the same name.
(or left over Registry entries that it hasn't cleared properly).

I suggest you should maintain your own and separate VST2 locations (for third party VSTs).
    See - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=299042505
(Steam paths replaced with regular Program Files paths).

Create the top level directories, for each of the 32/64bit versions, via Windows File Explorer prior to definition to the installer/install.

I agree with Mudgel - your 'wall of text' posts are hard to read ... nearly to the point of losing my interest.

Hello Everybody! I'm asking Addictive Drums 2 (XLN) if they have a fully functional 64 bit Vst version...

Re: Getting Addictive Drums 2 on to Sonar Platinum..... HELP! 2015/04/23 08:06:58 (permalink)
Are you asking them at the XLN Audio Site or here? ... because I'm not aware of an XLN representative on this forum.
(Cakewalk simply provides a License Key. The software is FULL and independently supported by XLN Audio. Sure - they likely have direct lines of communication, but I'm not aware of any requirement to such escalation ... yet).

However, the answer is "yes", as far as I'm aware. It's only VST2 (not VST3) but appears fully functional to me.
I've checked, as I eluded before, and sure enough the 32bit and 64bit VSTs are both called "Addictive Drums 2.dll" so the MUST be installed to different locations.

    I suggest you:
1a. - create two VST2 Plugin directories say:
    C:\VST_Plugins_32
    C:\VST_Plugins_64
1b. - Define these appropriately to the Sonar VST Scan Path list. On 64bit you can add both - 64bit will take precedence on double-ups otherwise BitBridge will usually handle 32bit to 64bit conversion.
2a. Create a directory in each - XLNAudio
2b. Put theses directories appropriately into the XLN Online Installer "Advanced" tab.

    ... and install

    ... and start / (auto)scan from Sonar

    (Standalone will be installed too).

Use these locations for future third party VST2 installs (in appropriatlely created subdirectories). They will be picked up by Sonar because you've already defined the 'root' locations to the Sonar VST scan paths.

I have the same problem, but on a new computer.
During install, AD2 reports the 32- and 64-bit paths are correct.
I created two new dirs for these, pointed the installer to them, and the install proceeded.
Started Sonar Prof, and got the error messages as above, re wrong binary location.
Updated Sonar via menu Edit > Prefs > File locations > CST > Add...
    AOK now, I think.
