Do you mean you want to cut out spaces in a project that have silence?

If so, check out tip #8 on the SONAR Power Tips page:

Sonar has feature called "Remove Silence" to do that.
Just do a search under help and you'll find it.

Thanks for the replies.  I have a project where the audio doesn't start until about 2:00, so I have about 2 minutes of unused space at the beginning of the project.  I'd like to know how to remove the unused space or move the audio tracks to zero.

did you import some audio and it didnt line up to the begining?i hear you say move it to zero?
you can grab it and move as well with the smart tool use the drag/looks like an x..just grab it and drag it to the beging.or just use the remove silience.

Well, you could select all your clips and just drag 'em to the left until you're at measure 1.

Alternately, you could select in the time ruler and choose EDIT | DELETE and tick off basically everything (the most important being "Delete Hole")

I tried some of the suggestions, but they're not working.  I tried select all, drag with smart tool "x" (tried move tool also)... the tracks don't move, they just stay at their original position.  I tried highlighting a section of the time ruler but DELETE is greyed out.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks

Also, I never locked any tracks.

A lot of people leave a measure or two of silence at the start of projects, to allow for count ins, for a lot of synths that are all playing on the first note etc.  It doesn't matter to have that blank space - When your project is done and you're ready to export your final mix, in the time line just select the portion you want - everything after measure 1 perhaps.  Or, export the whole thing and trim the 2-track master in an audio editing program.

If you drag-select in the time ruler without having all the tracks selected the delete option might be grayed out. I usually CTRL-A to select All and then reduce the time selection by dragging in the timeline.

I don't know why your data won't move by dragging it manually. Are you sure there's no clips over at measure 1?

You can slip edit the track to the beginning of the audio (which it sounds like you have already done), then bounce to clip. That will remove the audio data that's probably hidden behind that slip edit. Then >Process>Slide to wherever you want the audio clip or drag it to measure 1:00:00

And he should also check the event list to see if anything is in that 2 minutes of silence which is inhibiting him moving the tracks.

OK, if it's really important to remove the silence - even though it doesn't matter when you go to export your final project since in the time line you just select the portion of your project you want to keep - you could do this:

--Select all.  Make sure you're only selecting the tracks and no dead air - Look in the time line to make sure you haven't selected time before the first note you want.  If you've selected more than you want, hold Ctrl and click in the time line at the start of the song.  Cut.  Hit rewind to go the top of the project, Paste - The pop-up will ask you where you want to start the paste, make sure to select track 1, if that's the right first track for your song.

Still not having any luck with this.  There are no clips before the 2 minute mark, but each measure block has a grey dot in the center.  What does this mean?

I'm assuming you mean 2 measures and not 2 minutes? Can you bounce to clip? If you do does the gray dot go away? Are the clips/tracks Archived? Do you have Screen Shot you could post?

The dots are just showing empty measures.

Select All with Ctrl+A.  Move to the Time Line at the top of the Track View.  Ctrl+Click to set the start of the selection where you want it.  With the Grid OFF, drag all the tracks to the start of the project.

    Key points:
    --Grid OFF.-
--The blank area is not included in the time line selection.

If for some reason none of these things work for you, then do as I've said twice before:  Select in the Time Line only the part of the project that has music.  When you Export with all tracks selected, and only that portion of the Time Line selected, there will be no silence at the top of your Export.

Hooray!!  I was sweating this one out with you, Carvin.  Glad my last more to-the-point post helped.

Now you know what to do- at least one way the problem can be fixed.  But of course it'll be better if you avoid having all that blank space next time!  - I wish you the best with your projects.
