Getting Sonar X2 to "talk" to music recorded on iPad

Hi There, I have searched pretty thoroughly and can't see this discussed anywhere.

I have to get and iPad as my mobile device because the schools I work at will only network with Mac (Same for nearly all schools in New Zealand).  I cannot afford to buy an ultrabook to carry around as recording device and am loathe to take my 17 Inch 3.3 Kg (9lbs) Sony Vaio either...especially as I won't be recording that often.

I was very relieved to see that there is a good spec recorder for iPad (Auria) but it only exports sessions as AAF, which Sonar does not support!!!

Garageband doesn't export at all as far as I can tell....you can't even play sessions on a Mac that has Garageband!!!

It's difficult to tell for sure but it does not seem to be certain that the .wav files recorded by Auria can been easily sent to and accessed by PC

I trolled the Auria chat and they say they cannot implement OMF in iOS, unfortunately.

Cannot find any mention of why Sonar does not have AAF support :-(

Is anyone making multi-track recordings on iPad that can be ported to Sonar pretty easily?

TIA

Perhaps Cubasis??? According to full instructions you can transfers "files" from the "mediabay" of Cubasis on the ipad to your computer via Wi-Fi.

There's no suggestion that I can see that you need a Mac rather than a PC to do this.  Anyone know?

At least this would get the audio files over without using iTunes

Or pay ANOTHER $US100 to get Cubase Elements just so I can export as an OMF to get it into Sonar!

Basically you have to export each track by soloing the wave form per track. You save the soloed track as a wave form in your iTunes library.

That's about the only way you can do it to get it to your DAW or pc

It would be nice if the Auria app supported OMF file import/export.  I've had a lot of success using OMF as a go-between file format to/from Sonar and Cubase.

Auria is a pretty impressive piece of software to be running on an iPad, and hopefully they'll make this transition between environments and other sequencers a bit easier.  I know that with GarageBand you can work somewhat seamlessly between your iPhone, iPad and MacBook which really impressed me when I first tried it out, but I have yet to see anything that takes it a step further into other environments (perhaps by design?)

In the meantime you are probably better off just exporting the AIFF file and then using some file conversion tool for import into Sonar.  I don't think this should be difficult to achieve, although it's up to you to decide whether the effort is worth it.

Thanks VA...I will go ahead even with difficult workarounds, because I will only be doing quick and dirty demos or recording students....max 4 tracks.  I'm not planning on mixing, effects or even editing on the ipad...just a mobile recorder, really. Cheers

You shouldn't need to do any conversion.

    From the X2 Manual.

SONAR is a professional tool for authoring sound and music on your personal computer. It’s
designed for musicians, composers, arrangers, audio and production engineers, multimedia and
game developers, and recording engineers. SONAR supports Wave, MP3, ACIDized waves, WMA,
AIFF and other popular formats, providing all the tools you need to do professional-quality work
    rapidly and efficiently.

Hi John AIFF is Apple version of .wav - AAF is Advanced Authoring Format or something which is the new standard that supercedes OMF....although Cubase don't seem to have it either.  I gather that the DAWs have to pay someone for it, though

Me neither....Pro Tools, Logic, Digital Performer, Maybe Fruity Loops....I went to the website of the mob who promoted/invented but they didn't have a list....I was thinking if something like Studio One had it I could get the cheap version of that, open an Auria Project (AAF version) in Studio One (or Ableton) and export as OMF to open in Sonar....but that's maybe too complicated (not to mention expensive)

I usually use a software tool called dbPoweramp whenever I need to convert audio from one file format to another (such as WAV to MP3, or even the other way if I have some odd need to do so).

dbPoweramp integrates nicely in File Explorer in Windows, with a right-click context menu to initiate the conversion.   It can convert to and from nearly any audio file format and has a nice set of options and yet is easy to use and very quick.

I believe it supports AIFF file conversions, so you should be able to get it to do what you want reasonably easily:

As mentioned, AIFF-files need no conversion with SONAR.
AAF is another thing. It's designed for video pros:

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
