Getting around to it - SONAR upgrade questions
Ok, as of my last paycheck, I am: - Finally, completely out of debt (all my friends have been paid back for their help!)
- I have a new computer (new to me anyway, twice as powerful as my old one, 32 GB RAM and a video card that can handle my 4k monitor), AND
- I have some money left over!
Now I know I have to save up a lot more for all the toys I want (including getting one of my custom guitars back, getting something to play it through, etc.), but I'm wondering about upgrading SONAR and FINALLY getting it back on my computer. I currently have SONAR Producer IV, but all software and documentation is buried in my storage unit... If I call up the Bakers, do you think they can find my license info and allow me to upgrade without having to dig out all of the physical stuff? Would I still need to find the old software if it's an upgrade? I may not have any audio input devices yet, but there's some audio manipulation I'd like to do.
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Did you happen to use your forum email for your Cake Store Account/registration? If so I think you'd just need to log into the main Cake site with that and navigate to your account page. Might require you to "merge" your accounts (that weird crap we all had to do a few years back). If you used a different email and don't have your Cake account password handy but remember the email then you could probably use the "Forgot Password" option to get in there. Once you do get into your account your registered products should be in there and you will have access to upgrade pricing (if not then yes... you'll have to call Cake and have your product info). That said... that is an oooooooold version you got so maybe the whole account/registration process was different back then. In which case, again, a call or support email will be required... with your product info. Essentially, you need to get into your Account/Registered Products page then you'll be golden (unless you are one of the unlucky ones who's account didn't updated properly when they rekernoodled the site). Hopefully that helps/makes sense.

Oh and maybe send Andrew (Rossa) a PM about this. He's help me with some shtuff before. Sadly I think the new phone contact system is likely to be infuriating unless they managed to fix it in the last year. Edit: and I guess may not be aware of what they did with that. Before you could just call them. Now (unless they've changed) you have to make an "appointment" online by choosing an available timeslot and they call you. Problem: a) People have reported all the time slots being booked up and b) Cake not calling when they should. That may have gotten better by now but it was a mess after they introduced that system.

AFAIK there is no longer an upgrade path for legacy versions pre X1, so you will pay the same as a new customer.

Really? When did that happen? A year ago just owning an old version would give you an upgrade path. You wouldn't get a huge discount but it was like $50 or something off the full price of SPlat (IIRC). Yeesh. I really gotta finish up my damned album and get back to nerding out in the Sonar sub forum. I am wicked out of touch.

You'd think upgrading every version from Cakewalk v1.0 (and even helping debug things with Gregg over the phone!) to SONAR Producer 4 would be worth sumthin'! I figured I had lost out when I couldn't afford the lifetime update when I had the chance, but I didn't think I would be starting over... Oh well, there's always Pro Tools. (Definitely kidding there!) I may have to wait a bit more then, we'll see.

There will be a sale soon. Sit tight. (I have no inside info, it's just that sales happen)

Oh yeah man, there's no reward for loyalty in business these days. My local dealer just told me that my 1994 car is practically worthless now and to make matters worse apparently the warranty ran out 20 years ago.

Since they are just 1's and 0's why not just go for Beethoven's 9th?
