Getting caught in embarrassing lies

I just had a client call me to ask if I'd got her email this morning. I had, but it was a PITA and I didn't want to deal with it yet. So I said "oh sorry, I've been out on an emergency job all day and I'm going to get through the emails when I get home.
 
At that exact moment, my kettle started whistling on the stove. It's very loud. She just went "Uh huh. You do that" and hung up.

    A friend of mine had a similar experience when his wife called him to see when he'd be leaving the office.
     
    Just as the kilowatt club system kicked in with ZZ Top's "Legs" and the announcer screamed "how about a big Great Alaska Bush Company welcome for Candy Starr!!!"


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    My boss said she was stuck in traffic and couldn't make our meeting.
    I texted my wife, who was working at the bar across the street, asking that she walk up to said boss' table and inquire as to how long it would take her to find a parking spot.
