Gimme Shelter - The Measles - Live in the Glebe
This was not a planned video. I was actually walking by, saw the set, started taking pictures. I asked the drummer, Steve, if I could take some close ups. He says sure. We start to chat and I mention I am starting up a media production studio. While we were talking Al, the Gibson player and Mitch, the bass player come bouncing up "Who are you? Who are you with?" they ask. I told them 21st Century Bohemian. They seemed delighted and asked me if I would be willing to shoot some video for them, as its easier to get gigs with video of live work. I said I would love to shoot some video. Within a few seconds of them starting to play, I decided to shoot their whole set.

It sounds like a live band to me. That's good from my point of view. I do hear some funkiness here and there, but I don't know how you would ever be able to fix it. I hope you post whatever you end up with. I would be interested in hearing and seeing the final results. I don't much care for the black and white bits either, but that's a taste thing. I wish I had something helpful to add...It's nice see an appreciative crowd!

Ha! I used do do this one back in the day when I played in bands. They're not bad, you need to do a controlled studio take, where you can get a lot of good shots to blend in. I'm not sure I would showcase a song with the lyric "rape, murder, it's just a shot away" though. Not you, but them? But still in all like I said, we used to do this back in the day. That lead guitar player isn't half bad, I wish I had his chops. *I literally paused my movie to listen when I saw this (based on the title).

I think it sounds fine for a live take. It's been a while since I've heard this tune. Nice job!!!

Thanks Clint, yeah, I am going to lose the black and white bits. It does indeed have a live vibe and sound too it. I tried to add some depth and a bit of delay to widen it out and make is seem a bit bigger. It is surprisingly flat otherwise. Robby, by today's standards, this would be a kids song. Yeah, the lead is very good. It was hard to get a sense of the bass as it was so lost in the mix. The Gibson player is also good, but the lead is so comfortable with his beat up old guitar that he appears almost to be not even paying attention to the playing. Nearly total muscle memory. Thanks for watching. Thanks Robert. Yeah, the more I listen to this, the more I realize that it is no worse than many professional live recordings I possess, and better than a few.

nice version! my band used to play this tune too, but these old guys would kick our asses but I would vote for the black and white effect - this tune is often used as a soundtrack in documentaries about the students demonstrations and revolution in the late 60s / early 70s, so a little black and white just fits. not only in the guitar solo part. but that is only my humble opinion!

Thanks Daryl. It was a challenge especially as it was so windy. Thank you for watching and commenting Tom. I am trying some experiments with aged look to the video. The rendering times are pretty long.
Thank you for watching Freddy.

I have added an experimental dark version, which I think I will keep with a minor edit to the intro screen to remove the effect from it.

Shad, you did a nice job with the video. This song used to be a staple for me and just about every band of that era. If you had a bit more command of the audio, it would have been a killer video.

Thanks Lynn. Yea... I think I may take another stab at the audio. I have had a couple days away from it and listening again with fresher ears I think there is still a lot I can clean up.

Forum software still seems a little trick had to go to 21st Century Bohemian FB page to get it work. Nice bit of live work.
