Give all keystrokes to plugin - Gone in X1 ?
Hey folks, can anyone confirm / deny whether the "Give all Keystrokes to Plugin" icon has dissappeared in X1 ?. I checked just about all my VST instruments and effects, and there is no little "Keyboard Icon" in the VST header any more. I loaded up 8.5.3, and it IS available on them all there in both 64 and 32bit of 8.5.3 For me, it's not available on either 32 or 64bit X1 (Expanded). I must say, I was aware of this function earlier, but I'm sure I never really have to use it. Except for now, of course :-). The strange thing is, it didn't pose me a problem until now, and I seem to have one VST (Play 3) where the behaviour is a problem. What happens, in Play, if you click on the VST "Main Menu", from there "Save as", and a "Browser" pops up. But not the same looking browser as with other VSTs. This one looks like the "Sonar Browser". So, browser pops up, navigate to where you want to save the preset, place cursor in filename box and try to edit the filename "POOF". Gone :-) No kidding. Hit digit 3 - "Switch to Screenset 3", hit Space - "Play time". I can't edit the filename to to something unique, so I thought "Give All Keystrokes to Plugin", and clicked on the "Step Sequencer". But that doesn't do what I want at all. Now I've scoured the help and the PDF Reference, and all I can find is where it shows you the "give all keystrokes to plugin" icon, which should do what I want ... but it's nowhere to be found. Is there some setting or variable ?. I can't find one. I tried to log a problem report, but that failed saying there was a problem with the internet. And there was. And I felt better knowing I wasn't alone, just isolated. Now the internet is back, so I'm thinking about hitting the problem reporter again, just thought I'd check in here to see if I'm special enough to be the only one having this issue. A couple of (maybe ?) important things. - My sig is wrong - I have X1 Expanded, I don't know whether the icon was there before Expanded. Actually, I don't know if this issue with Sonar/Play 3, and/or the loss of the "keystrokes" icon were there in X1c, because I only had that for a short time. I DO know that in X1b, this problem did not occurr for me with Play X, but I'm fairly sure the browser that opened from "Save As" when in X1b, was like the one that "other VSTs" get now - like a Windows Explorer window. I have files that suggest this problem didn't occurr on X1b, with the first Play 3 release I installed. But since then, there has been another Play 3 update, X1C, and X1 Expanded. Not sure what broke or when in that lot. Any help appreciated. Cheers - Cliff

Hey Cliff! I don't have any good suggestions. Just want to follow this thread. Very interesting. TBH, I never even looked at or understood the Send All keystrokes thingy on the plug in window. But the way you put it sure explains a thing or two! Not at my DAW right now and won't be for a few days so I'm unable to check it. But looking forward to hear what people have to say

I still see the "Give all keystrokes to plug in" icon in softsynths in SONAR X1 32bit and and X1 64bit. Try loading the synths that come with X1 such as Dimension Pro, Studio Instruments Bass, etc.. Do you see the icon on these synths? The other thing is that to get it to show in Plug ins loaded with BitBridge, it is necessary to hold down the Shift key while opening the plug in GUI. Then, you might have to move the main plug in GUI to see the other smaller GUI with the icons on it. Hope that helps.

I also don't see the "Keyboard Icon" anymore, not in softsynths or any other Plug In (Cakewalk or third-party). The only problem I have so far is naming / renaming component presets in GuitarRig 3 doesn't work, while GR 4 e.g. recognizes the keystrokes correctly. @thomasabarnes Do you really still have this icon? I ask because first I mixed up "Keyboard" icon" and "Step Sequencer" icon, lol. Anyway, I'd like to get it back. Best, Klaus

It's a bug. The button is supposed to be there. If not already, please submit a problem report. Thanks. Keith

I wonder what version of SONAR X1 are you all using that don't see the icon. I'm using X1c. I didn't get Expanded, yet. But I plan on getting it next month. Thanks for getting back, I have a work around for the specific problem I hit. Klaus I also don't see the "Keyboard Icon" anymore, not in softsynths or any other Plug In (Cakewalk or third-party). The only problem I have so far is naming / renaming component presets in GuitarRig 3 doesn't work, while GR 4 e.g. recognizes the keystrokes correctly. Hi Klaus, same here except I don't have GR3, but GR4 works fine - but still no Icon. I hit the step sequencer too, it looks almost the same through my dodgy eyes. @thomasabarnes Do you really still have this icon? I ask because first I mixed up "Keyboard" icon" and "Step Sequencer" icon, lol.
Hey Thomas, do you have "Expanded" ?. I see Klaus does, and that may be the difference ... I have a feeling, but not jumping to conclusions yet :-) presets in GuitarRig 3 doesn't work My workaround is to just create the file manually eg: Windoze Explorer - create an empty file by the name you want. Then you can select that empty file from the "Save As" browser, and overwrite it. So when I want to save the instrument definition, first create the file in Windows, then in the "Save As" browser I navigate to the file and the file name populates the "File Name" field when you click on / select it. Click "Save" and answer Yes to "Replace existing file" prompt, - Done !. I would like the keystrokes feature, and it is there in 8.5.3 working on my system with all the exact same plugs. @thomasbarnes Thanks Thomas, and yep, the missing Icon happens with every softsynth and effect I've tried. I even did the old delete of AUD.INI for X1 and let it create a new one, full VST "Reset All" and rescan, but nothing has changed. Tried all the standard cake stuff, IKMM, NI, and on and on ... took ages :-) Maybe we'll see if a few more people chime in. At least I can work around it for now, but I feel visit to the problem reporter coming on. Cheers - Cliff

Yes, that's what I'm sure I used to see, now just drop the keyboard Icon and right justify the others, and that's what I see. I have a strong sense this is to do with "Expanded". The fact Thomas doesn't have expanded, Klaus and I do, and timestamps on some files. Weird :-0 Cheers - Cliff

Athough it is already been reported, the give all keystrokes to plugin makes no difference when using the synth,ZEBRA as Sonar X1 will not let you rename a patch when using this plugin. This was not the case with 8.5. I just felt a need to mention this again because it bugs me.
