Glass Colored Roses (MRI)

...just a simple pop/rock song with some universal existential themes in lyrics

Words & Music by Daren Thomas Turner

All day long I do nothing but
Dream about when I’ll have something
To show the world that I was there

All night long I do nothing but
Toss and turn and pray for morning
And then it comes, as A.M. does…

Will I ever see you
Outside a dream state window?
Inside a lotus flower?
Inside a half an hour?

Will I ever get there?
This map is old and tattered
The roads all lead to nowhere
Or right back here…

All day long I do nothing but
Dream about when I’ll have something
To show the world that I was there

All night long I do nothing but
Toss and turn and pray for morning
And then it comes, as A.M. does….

Will you ever see me
As more than a statistic?
As more than just a headache?
As more than just a mistake?

Will I meet my maker
As salt without a shaker?
As bread without a baker?

Tell the world I tried…

We have a word for music like that around these parts - Brilliant!  The vocals were arranged and performed very well, and the lyrics are very good.  The overall production showcases your talents and sounds very robust on my system.  I like the fact that you panned the elements of this mix widely because I'm hearing a lot of mixes these days that are quite narrow.  You definitely have carved out your own style, and it's becoming more unique with each submission.  Kudos.

    All the best,

+1 to what Lynn said. My only complaint is much like my other crits... overly compressed and a bit too much effect on the vox. Otherwise, great work.

    I like this a lot!

It is a bit compressed, but it still sounds really good.

The vocals on this reminds me of someone ... The Hollies perhaps?

    Thanks,

    Bub.

This is a different sound Daren, good stuff. It's quite fatiguing to listen to though, one look at the waveform shows how compressed it is. Not sure about the multi-part lead vocal, that effect could be used a little more sparingly I think. Lovely guitar break.

cool thanks for feedback. i stereo panned the two contrasting yet complementary guitar riffs for aural space.  my chording guitar (American Strat) is tuned to an Esus2/add9 chord E,B,E,F#,B,E & the echo-delay guitar (Strat w/ Seymour Duncan pickups) is kinda playing a riff i based on Rush's "Subdivisions" if you listen closely.  there are no fx on the vocals, just all my vox tracks are tripled each using different mic [shure SM57, sennheiser e815 s, AKG perception ] so when combined w/ harmonies there is a larger-than-life natural lush chorusing that I understand can sound too 'fx-y' to some ears but such was my aim.
